Question about Bear Super K

I have a 1970 circa Super K 64" 45#@28.  When I shoot this bow I get a loud string slap from the limb groves. Is this common with these bows.

Sounds like a low brace height.

My brace height is at 8". I've always had string slap with this bow. May try some moleskin.

The 64" Super Kodiaks are very smooth and quiet in my experience.
Try this. No measuring at this point.

Start with a very high brace height and work your way down til the sweet spot is found for you.Then measure the brace height and make a note of it. Brace height will vary greatly from person to person. Good Luck......philip

Thanks, I'll give it a try.  This is one very smooth shooting bow. I think it's smoother than my Black Widow.

I'd twist the string up a bit. To maybe 8 1/4 or 8 1/2. It may not take much. Are you shooting an endless or a flemish string. Although it shouldn't make that much of a difference, flemish strings have usually been percieved to be a bit quieter.

I'm using a flemish string. I've been making my own for years. It won't harm this old bow to go with these higher brace heights? What if I have to go to 9 or 9 1/2 inches? I never had these problems with string slap before. I use a 7 1/2" brace height on my Black Widow. I would really like to get this old girl back in the woods. Thank ya'll for all your help.

Bear always had high brace heights, but you won't need to go anywhere near that high. We're talking about measuring it from the deepest part of the grip to the string. I wouldn't start any higher than 8 3/4, then work down. Mine usually work very well at about 8 1/4.

I got the old Super K shooting whisper quiet. The brace height ended up being 8 5/8 inches.  Once again thank ya'll for all your help.

Also light weight arrows generally make more noise a 9 to 10 grains per inch make for a quiet bow with proper brace height.

Yes sir, you are correct about the light arrows. I made that mistake in the past trying to get "more speed". Quickly came to my senses and now I shoot P.O. cedar arrows.
