Solid fiberglass bow problems
« on: November 03, 2011, 08:31:00 AM »
Got this bow from my grandfather. Have no idea of the maker but I know it's 40 lbs. Made of solid milky colored fiberglass and is a recurve. I only draw 27 inches. Here is my problem, sometimes it comes unstrung when being shot. There is no rhyme reason or timing to it. I have seen no visible issues with string nocks or any limb twist. I would really like to save it for my future kids or to start someone else out but don't want this happening to them. Does anyone have any thoughts? Was this a common problem on these bows? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I strongly suspect a twisted limb. I wouldn't know how to untwist a solid glass one though.

Read the other thread and realized I never checked for twist when strung. Will check and let you know. Thanks

While anything is possible, I can't imagine how a solid glass bow could have twisted limbs.  More likely the problem is one of three things:
1.  String too long
2.  String loops to big
3.  String nock grooves damaged

If the limbs are twisted, there isn't anything you can do about it; it almost had to be twisted from the day it was manufactured.
