need help dating a bear long bow
« on: November 15, 2011, 03:51:00 PM »
I just aquired a bow that has "bear products" burnt on it.  I think it's from the late 30's but don't know what it's really worth. Is the case part of the bear line it doesn't have any markings exept for a pencil or pen mark on the top inside flap.  Should i keep it in the case and put it away or let my twelve year old son have it.  http://s1224.photobucket.com/albums/ee364/tperski46/

Unless it's a fake (might be? it looks a little different BUT I'm no pro by any means) it's an old grumley and no don't let your son have it and no don't throw the case away.

Doesn't look like the real Bear Products band on that bow.

Tennis wrap grip on it is not typical Bear Products grip.

Light lamination in handle section is not typical Bear Products.

The orange backing looks like unidirectional glass which was first made about 10 years after the last Bear Products bows were branded.

I ai'nt no pro by any means but I would say that is an American Archery long bow from the looks of the grip area.Although they built bows for many companies bear was not one of them.Someone else may have burned bear products there. It atualy looks like it melted the glass around the edge ?? bd

Hey thanks for the info not what I wanted to here.  Do people really fake these cant imagin they need to be proud of there own bows and make a name for them self.  The bow I have is beautiful its looks like its only been shot a couple of times.  To look at it you can tell its old but who knows.
