Herters Perfection Mag ??s and refinish pics
« on: December 01, 2011, 05:48:00 PM »
I got sucked in, couldn't pass it up on the auction site even though my kid said "Quit wasting your time" and took a chance. Sellers pics sucked and did not know the poundage. It's a Herters Perfection Mag takedown with aluminum/magnesium riser and attached bow quiver. Started acetone to take the fifteen coats of paint. 62"  53#@28. This will be my winter project. I would like to know the reccomended brace for these( came with 3 original 55" strings which string up to 9.5" brace from throat). Were the bow quivers standard ? Were the original risers painted or left bare ?

Thanks for the info .....and yes pics Will follow

Kuch,
If you know a furniture restorer or someone who has a dipping tank of stripper, that would be the way to go on that.
I'm talking "brief submersion" then into the hose we go to wash it all away.
I've done this many times when my brother was in the restoration biz.

Thanks Philip, Lots of elbow grease with the 4 coats o paint. Any ideas on those clips and what the original riser colors were? I strung it up and feels at Least the 53# marked. Always wanted to see how their limbs "attached" to the riser.

Yes, I'll second the thought that it might shoot very well.  I've got two wood handle Herters T/Ds in 60 and 52# and had they shoot well. One suggestion though: take a look at the limb profile....that's quite a bit of mass.  Load those up with a heavy string and you will be hurting the bow's performance even more. However, if you put 10-12 strands of dacron on it, you'll very likely have a better shooter.

Tom, Just shot about 30 arrows. Not bad. Had an 8 strand FF but too long and brace was 7.5 had to try the original string(16 strand) , which I usually throw away but these were in good shape. Waxed it , braced at 9" and shot fair but more limb vibration than I'm used to. Not a bad bow for the price... unique.Seems like there were some good ideas (hex head bolts instead of flat head bolts to attach the metal brackets and quiver..which is solid and well made....but unusual contact points for the limbs.

Still don't know what those clips are for ?
