Fred Bear and Glenn St Charles Gainsville Fl 1988
« on: December 19, 2011, 04:48:00 PM »
Several Christmas ago my wife bought me this vhs tape from Glenns son Joe.
A Conversation with Fred and Glenn from Feb 18th 1988.
Does anybody know if this also was burned on a cd. I tried lookin threw 3rivers and no luck.
Ofcourse im a idiot with computers and cyberworld. But it has cool storys and other archery stars in it aswell. I really like to watch it again but my VHS player like to eat tapes. So I either locate the CD version or bye a new vcr player. Any help from the tradgang stars is always appreciated.
Anybody else seen this or heard of it forsale any where? Thanks fellas and Merry Christmas.   :help:

There are places that will copy that tape to a DVD/CD/memory stick.

Warberg,
I can't remember seeing the footage you mention here.
Others may have asked you already,
if you are able to make copies, would you be so kind as to make a copy for me? I would pay you for this and be very grateful as well.
Like most Bear collectors,
I could never get enough of PapaBear! And Glenn in the same video is making me get "target panic" and I'm not even shooting a bow!

thanks in advance......Philip

I had to view it,
To see Fred and Glenn sitting together talking of the future of archery, laws and hunting regs. On top of there back and fourth storys of the past.
Mr Latimer and Jennings are also apart of the fun. Did Mr Grumly have a short tempure as mentioned by Fred?

Nels Grumley worked for Bear 14 years according to Nels ad in Archery Magazine when he opened his new shop. Nels continued on as a stockholder in Bear until the company was sold.

Lots of laughs in that Duck footage. It is a hoot.

I'm certain that is the type of footage that they took to enjoy between themselves and never intended to have it released to the public. We appreciate it, but others might be less appreciative of the humor.

I lost it when Freds reading Glenns letter and mentioned Glenn should get the 6 months in alcatraz on top of the 1100 dollar fine.
Watching this sure expresses the loyalty between Fred and Glenn.
Glenn signs the letter  " With reservations" your Friend Glenn St Charles.
Im gonna ask Glenns Daughter about this tape, maybe she has more info.
Thanks again Wade.

Oh, yes. That tape is a hoot. Fred and Glenn loved to joke around. You grasp some of that when reading Dick Lattimer's books. Latimer says Fred treated Dick Mauch a son. Mauch is a lot like Fred and loves to joke around too. Mauch is 85 and as sharp as a tack, a little hard of hearing so he seems a bit eccentric as he just talks on and it is almost impossible to get a word in. A lot of those guys that were Bear Stockholders or the higher ups were like Bear, St. Charles and Mauch. Fred truly surrounded himself with great men who were a lot like him.  I'll continue in the next post...

Fred Bear's inscription to Dick Mauch on the inside front cover of the book, "Your Cabin in the Woods", which Fred gave to Dick in 1978 after Dick purchased the land along Plum Creek for them to hunt on...

"To Dick Mauch - Rushed out to get this so that we can have a first class bunkhouse. I don't go for this roughing it and hope you can locate the affair between close up trails of big deer coming to the canyon at daybreak. Need large windows facing the trails and high ceilings for bow clearance. Fred Bear 1978" (signed)

After you spend time at the Plum Creek Cabin bowhunting and enjoying Dick's more than generous hospitality, humor and wit, then go back to the house and open the book and read Fred's inscription, it brings tears of joy to a bowmen's eyes to be so blessed to be able to enjoy those experiences.

The old traditional bowmen are truly special men.
