Filling site holes in riser and refinishing a couple Pearsons
« on: January 03, 2012, 10:05:00 PM »
So far I've refinished nine bows and am very pleased with the outcome.I was really concerned at first about sanding too much off the limbs and losing draw weight, but Bowdoc told me to start at the riser and just watch the dull line show on the glass and chase it. It worked perfectly. Here are a couple of my victims. The first is a 73' Pearson Marauder TD 7460 it looked like a speckled pup with the finish coming off and the riser had a couple of laminations needing reglue and clamped. Here are a couple after pictures.                                              The next one is a 69' Pearson Mercury Marauder TD it also had finish peeling and someone had thrown a poor finish over that. It also had two holes in the riser where I assume a site was attached and they had put an unstain filler in them. I cleaned them out and filled with Varathane filler and then put alittle acrylic paint on to try and look like the wood grain. The holes are barely noticeable now although the flash on the camera brought them out.

Mike, It's Minwax Clear poly wipe on in a gloss finish. It's is super easy to use and comes in satin and I beleive semi gloss also.
Rich your right I have a 29 1/4" draw and that bugger gets pretty saltly out there for me. I prefer to stay under 65# at my draw length. The hole repair I got off your site and it really works good. I repaired some on a Wing Thunderbird that just disappeared.

Great job

I have an old beater, possibly firewood, that I'm going to use for my first project.

It's really hard to hide a repair from yourself if you did it,most people won't notice until you point it out, I can't see the repairs in these pictures but I do notice the excellent finish and good on ya for putting some time into Pearsons.
