Looky what I found today
« on: February 15, 2012, 09:43:00 PM »
Its a Grizzly. I figure its 55 or earlier based on the stickers and not silkscreens. I have been giver estimates from anywhere from 53-56.

Dual Shelf Grizzly 55 lbs.  The guys dad shot it mainly with field archery but hunted a little. He died in 59.  The bow has sat since but the owner shot it a few years back.

Charlie - I can't help you with the year but that's a neat bow.  You've been finding some good ones recently.

Charlie, Awesome!!! Like we talked about before since it has black glass and underlays it is a '55 or '56.

Great Score!

Jack is most likely correct that it is a '55 due to the stickers instead of silkscreens.

Nice Charlie. That thing will shoot good. Be sure to look it over before stringing up tho.
It is just like the one we talked about.

Yeah, I've got it's twin, and had identified it as a '55. Can't tell which is the "prettier sister"!  Mine is S/N GF668, 51#.  Nice, nice, nice.  Love shooting those old statics!  They were lots better than most imagine. The compass Kodiak was a really sweet shooting bow, but it didn't perform with the statics from these years(tho it sure had less shock!)

Way to go Charlie, so it looks like your offer was accepted. One more new toy for your collection. Hope when I am out there in May, we can shoot some of them. Just a little buck came in last night. The big guy has not been around since Sunday.
Have a great day!!

Great find Charlie.  That bow is sweet and those arrow boxes are in great shape!

Glad you got them.

How do these old dual shelfers shoot?  I shoot right and left handed, thought it would be neat to sit in a stand and be able to shoot from either direction.

I put a string on it tonight without a blow up.  Now I will make a string for it and see what it shoots like.

I have a feeling there will be some shock but nothing worse than a hill bow.  If you find a way to reduce it or dont mind some thump, you will probably enjoy it.  I already think I will be able to shoot it well. I had a cub with a similar profile and shot it well RH but wasn't so good LH. probably from lack of practice.

I had my 58 Grizz out today.  That is a great shooting bow!
