a bunch of arrows and a SURPRISE!!!!!...
« on: March 01, 2012, 05:17:00 PM »
Bought a bunch of arrows and found a "WOW"...surprise...

They were all very well wrapped and packed in brown paper...except the small bundle with the blue paper.
intially I thought maybe the sender sent me an invoice..but the rubberband was so old it broke when I tried to remove it.
Then I thought probably just wrapped seperate...but you know sometimes womething catches your attention...so I opened it..."Oh WOW"
So I believe these have been wrapped up and it a closet since the time they were brought home...

Real nice find!  How about a close up of the broadheads as there appear to be some '57 style Bear Razorheads in there... (Judging by my phones poor picture quality at least)

Ron;
Would that be these?
They appear to be woven, are dipped full length bear brown, have wooden plugs in the tip ends, and mid-nocks?  I don't know what they are????

Hobow, Here are shots of the 57 and 60 broadheads

These are a curiousity to me??? The cresting is all the same,except 2, but different colors on each arrow.  The arrows are 4 different lengths,2 @ 28 1/4 one with 57 broadhead and one 60 broadhead, 5@ 28 5/8 4 with 57 broadhead and one with 60 broadhead, 3@ 28 3/4 2 with 57 broadhead and one 60 broadhead.  & 2@ 29 1/2 one 57 broadhead and one 60 broadhead.  nine of the broadheads,(5 57s and all 4 60), have bleeders,( all with holes), Of the bleeders 4 are light metal color and the other 5 are blued metal color.  all the broadheads appear factory sharpened but none appear to have been shot???

The fiberglass shafts are probably Fleetwood. They were made a a sheet of glass wrapped around a mandrel. Sometimes a faint line or edge can be see running on an angle from both ends to the end point in the middle.

Yeah, Bear sold those shafts but I don't know who made them. Ron is likely right about Fleetwood. I think they preceded the aluminum insert shafts. I had a couple dozen of these arrows. I've got a couple left, and ground a hole in the side of one to see what was done.  They just used a wooden dowel as a plug and ground it off.  I had some old glass shafts without the proper insert and found a dowel that was close and tried it. The thing about it is the dowel actually doesn't have to fit perfectly.  I used a Woodchuck, but any grinder that locates off the shaft OD will grind the taper to be pretty well aligned. Was so impressed that I later tried it on an aluminum shaft just to see if it worked....it did.

Quite a find though, I think. Congratulations.
Tom

Thanks for the pics, that is a great find!  The broadheads look to be in excellent condition along with the bleeders.  I love old arrows, they are often times a mash up of colors that one would not normally choose...

Congrats!
