polishing after refinish job

After about 60 to 70 coats of Tru Oil and numerous 1000 grit sandings, I'm about ready to call it good and do a final buffing and polishing on my 1960 Kodiak Special Deluxe. I plan to use a buffer wheel and wonder if I should use some rouge.  Anybody out there familiar with what works well.  This bow has been on my workbench for at least six months and it needs to be in the display rack.  My wife is getting jealous of all the time that I spend on it.

I wouldn't use rouge.  That's too coarse.  Since you've used 1000 grit I would suggest a final wet sanding with 2000 grit and then use auto clear coat swirl remover by hand to polish the bow.   Then I would buff it with a clean buffing wheel.

60-70 coats, Yikes! How many #'s of draw weight did the bow gain?

Old Skool,Most of the finish is on the riser so it shouldn't have gained any draw weight.  Thanks for the chuckle. If I remember correctly, it is only a 37# bow so a little gain would be a good thing.

I'm with bamboo!! I think at this stage I would do it by hand. Should be VERY nice. If possible post some pics.

By hand, it should give you what you want

By hand. I wouldn't chance using power tools at this stage. A little hand rubbing and you'll get the look your after.

Thanks everyone.  I finished it yesterday and installed the pad on the sight window and a feather rest.  It looks pretty good.  I used a Mothers headlight restoration kit and a variable speed drill to buff it out.  I took it real slow so as to not heat up the finish.  It's smooth as a baby's behind.  I'll post pics when I figure out how to use that piture bucket thingy.
