Black Widow - Wilson Bros.
« on: October 12, 2012, 11:13:00 PM »
I found a older Black Widow bow today. It is a 60" one piece Made by Wilson Bros. It is # 20272 and I think model 4-101.

Does anyone know any info on this bow ? Year made ? Possible value ? The bow is in very good condition.

 Thanks

Contact Black Widow they probably have records of most bows produced.

yup, plenty of widow collectors on the other forum. is it a hunting weight?  love to see a picture, I'm a huge fan of the Wilson Brothers hunting bows.....old Widows in good shape average 200-400.

The bow is most likely a model H-101.The "H" sometimes looks like a "4".Great bow.

Thanks I don't have a picture. I found this bow in a while doing a mortgage inspection . But the guy would not sell me the bow. I may make him a larger offer. It is 51# at 28".

The 4 is indeed an H-101 and the serial number 20272 comes back to a 1967.The catalog says:

Walnut or Maple handle trimmed with contrasting hardwood, dark brown glass, front and back.$89.50
All Rosewood handle section $110

We believe this is the finest hunting bow ever made.Designed as a companion bow to the target model 101.It has the speed of a flight bow,and the smoothness and stability found in the finest target model. If you are a man who demands the very best in his hunting equipment, this is the bow for you.

Recommended string height measured from the string to the deepest part of the handle
7 1/4"- 8"

Value? These old bows are only worth what somebody is willing to pay for them. The condition is one big factor you must consider.

Hope this helps.

Regards,Ray

Ray :  Thanks for the info. The bow looked in good condition. It was unstrung. Its the first Wilson Bro. Black Widow I have had my hands on. I shoot a wido but a modern widow. I offered the guy $ 200 but he would not take it. It is the only recurve he has and he gave $ 25 for it. It does have some scratches on the upper limb but it looked straight. I think I will up my offer and see what happens. Thanks again for the dtailed info.

Right on rabob...have an "H" handle 101  in rosewood...60" in 45#......chocolate brown limbs. THEY  ARE  AWESOME  SHOOTERS...and very much a custom bow of the 1960's.  Mine is also a 1967 model  bought from the reigning Pennsylvania state champion who was also a Wilson Brothers Widow dealer in the Harrisburg, Pa. area. It was purchased by my friend Barry who sold it to me 2 years ago...it is absolutely one of my favorite bows. If I can figure out this picture thing, I'll post some pics...good thread...!....Jackdaw
