Anyone make custom wood grips for Mag risers? How would one attach the wood grip?

Same way the rubber and plastic are attached-glued or double back tape.

I would just bet a new nickle that Monte has made one or two.
If you have an extra Chad, maybe I could have a look at it and see if I can do it for you.
Shoot, you could do it. But let me know if you want me to look at one for you.

I've never seen wood grips for a mag, would have to be 2-piece I'm thinking.

I think it can be done as a one piece with extensive hand crafting or if a person has access to a milling machine. My concern would be the thickness in the throat area between the shooters hand and the slot in the grip that the riser fits into. It may well be thicker than the rubber or plastic grip.
With just a quick look at a #1 rubber grip without any measuring tools- I would say the sides and throat area are no more than 1/8" thick.

My thoughts also, Ron. I think the wood would have to be thicker or stabilized block  which would be pretty pricey. I also wondered if the weight of the stabilized wood would be a factor with the double sided tape....maybe 1 screw into the riser? I have been thinking about it but the amount of work and cost seems high, Just wondered if any one has done this?

I don't see why it would be any different than the wooden grips used on metal ILF risers ie. Morrison's. I have had a few of Bob's risers with wood grips that felt awesome!

I think it would be a great project!

Riser shape and size is going to factor in on the grip size.

Chuck,
Looks like you are going to have to pay up that shiney nickle! LOL I have not made a wood grip. Although as soon as I read Chad's post the gears started turning! I have too many things going right now, like finishing my A wood riser and such. My first thought was a two piece grip but was wondering how many people would want to drill a hole through their riser. I may give this some thought later on.

I agree with not wanting to drill a hole in the riser, but you dont want the one of a kind grip falling off nor your bow bouncing off the driveway with the grip still in your hand. The glue/epoxy may be the way to go but somewhat permanent . Don't want to speak for Ron or Monte ,but I think the grip would have to be hand fitted to the individual riser....again, I think pricey and time consuming but ultra cool....stabilized dyed maple burl grip ,side plate , latch bears.....

I may give it some thought as well Monte. I just remembered that I have a 1R grip on a C riser to use as a pattern.
Chad, The side plate and Bears might be easier, we will see what the long winter nights bring.

PS, Who do I send the Nickle to?
