I have been busted by old doe and that's what they did. And they blow for 10 or 15 minutes all round me. At that point I might as well get out of my tree cause the deer avoid that area for a while.

It could be many things. Sounds like a challeng or aggression sound, but odd for this time of year.

They'll do that when they know something is up and they don't like it. I had a nice 8 pointer do that over and over again one year. He made sure to stay on the other side of the thick brush the whole time. That's what you get sometimes, when the wind isn't quite right.

That's the same kinda sound my buddy Wood Only makes when he wakes up in the morning!    I won't mention the other (sounds) his body makes. You can ask around... Hold on to your hat!  ;)

Did you get a look at him before, during, or after he sneezed at you?  His body language could help tell you what he was up to.  I've had does around me that I could see but they couldn't see me make that kind of sound as they circled to try and figure out where/what I was.

I stumbled into a small herd of mulies once and the buck with them made that sound. I took it as an alarm sound they make to alert the herd.

The snort/wheeze is their sound to let you and the other deer know that you are busted in one form or another.  If they can't see you then they've smelt you.  Or when I try to draw my bow undetected and I am detected.  It clears out the woods quick when that happens.

Well heres what had happened that morning me and 2 friends were at a orchard farm that we are aloud to hunt there.
Me and one friend were about 60 to 65 yards apart but the worst part i was about 40 yard in the orchard from a road where the deer cross and my friend was about 60 yards back from the road and the wind was blowing between use from across the road on angle i had 4 does come in between use about 25 yards from me all i needed was the 1 doe to take 2 steps more to get a clear vital shot which at that exact instant when i had a clear a car came down the road and as i let the arrow fly  she turned to look at it and i niced her just enough to draw blood
this is when i heard the weird noice as the car came down the road a doe bolted back across the road and almost got hit right after that i they all ran after  her and about 3 minutes later i heard a grunt from across the road but down farther behind me then about 10 minutes after that yes right acrost the road from use we heard the noise from the buck aleast assumeing it was a buck then 45 minutes later nothing and we never seen who made the noise but man was the heart pounding in my ears though so follow what little blood there was to make sure was ok or going in the freezer lol turns out she fine we did find her browsing and glasses her and seen just a small cut on her right shoulder

Here is what I have noticed while observing and hunting deer.

If they smell me it’s all over they will turn tail and run because their nose knows. But, if they hear me or see me and haven’t figured out that I’m a threat they will snort and run a short distance stop and look back in my direction and usually snort again. This is usually a sign that they are trying to figure out if I am friend or foe.

I don’t remember if I have read this or heard it on a video about deer behavior but, if I wait for the deer to snort a second time and then I snort back (try to mimic the sound the best I can) they will sometimes come back towards me because they think I am a deer.

I have used this trick on three different occasions successfully. Two of the times were on the ground while I was on a hike and not hunting and once while I was hunting in a treestand. All three time brought the deer back in but they were very leery. The hunting experience did not offer me an opportunity for a shot.

The time that I was hunting I called a doe in with a fawn in distress call. So when she came in she was fast and frantic. When she didn’t see any sign of a fawn in trouble she turned around and ran out a short distance the same way she came in and then stopped and snorted. I waited for her to snort again and then I snorted. After a few seconds she started to walk back towards me but she was very cautious. She would walk a few steps with her eyes fixed in my direction and then stop continuing to stare in my direction with her head bobbing from side to side. After a while she lost interest and walked away. I called her back two more times with fawn in distress call but she never put herself in a position where I could take a shot. It was a fun experience just watching her behavior..

Any time I get the opportunity to try this snorting trick I take it just so I can see how the deer will react. Sometimes it works and sometimes they just keep on running but it is fun to try.

3 weeks ago I had a doe walk behing me into the brush after a buck had been chasing her around a bit.  The buck was to my 2 o'clock behind trees and as I said the doe was to my 6 o'clock and caught my wind.  Back there she was stamping and snorting.  The buck didn't know why as he didn't see me or smell me and I was between them so to speak.  I figured this was a good time to fool him so I buck grunted to make him think she was snorting at another deer.  It worked and with in 45 second he was out in the locust grove in front of me.  Of course I missed a chip shot but it shows that these animals rely on their vocalizaton and we can use that to our advantage.

Before and during hunting season I sit on my back porch, reading or watching the whitetails. Every so often a doe will snort-sneeze. There appears to be no warning involved in the action. It's just a sneeze, sometimes occurring while laying in the grass, sometimes while feeding. And sometimes it's a spasmotic, repetitive thing, like someone with hay fever.

Does this mean the action and sound acquire different meaning during hunting season? Dunno.

A spooked doe will make this sound to alert others as she high-tails it.  A buck will sometimes use it differently though.

I've had bucks sit back in the woods and snort/wheeze at me for half an hour or more.  They know something is up, but they are simply thinking I'm another buck and aren't what I would consider "spooked", just really ticked off.  It is an intimidation to try to get me to engage them.  Its deer-speak for "come get some, punk".  You can buy calls to imitate the behavior in return, but I have no experience with them myself.

Not so fast, there!  I had a deer come up behind me last year - he or she must've smelled me because took off high-tailing and yelling a fuss for quite a ways through the woods.  About an hour later, it came back again and did the same thing.
