Good Day To String And Shoot New to me Grumley
« on: May 01, 2013, 08:06:00 PM »
I would like to thank John Kabisa for a wonderful trade. Received a Takedown Bush bow Grumley from him today that is in excellent shape. I decided to string it up and give it a wirl. After stringing and giving the bow a few light draws I could tell that this bow was a shooter. Now I can't shoot it very well yet, likely due to wrong spine. Shot to the left. Had a bit of a scare as after my third shot the latch let go and bow came apart on me. After the shock of what just happened to me I checked the bow over, and found no issues accept the bent latch that was replaced. I am sure it's the grade of steel as the hook area had bent.     John is going to bring one of his Grumleys in to a machine shop and get me a better grade of steel latch to replace it. Over all this was a wonderful day to shoot a Grumley which is my first Grumley to string up and shoot. Making my first a takedown is even more special. I was as excited to string this old bow up and shoot it as I was about receiving my Stickboman. Hope some of you can post more Grumleys on this topic, and maybe a few of those daring ( or Crazy)  enough to shoot one.

I kept string I had made from previous TD Grumley that I sent to John in Trade. Must have had a premonition that I would own another one.

Congratulations Shane.
That's a sweet Grumley and you are brave to string and shoot it!
Enjoy.....Philip

Thank you Philip. Some may call me crazy but I couldn't resist temptation. I had great confidence in this bow.

Hm crazy maybe, by the looks of it the bow is abit out of tiller, upper limb is bending at one location more than the bottom and then you said the latch broke during shooting, and that my friend is why I never shot my Grumley.   :nono:

The latch gave out due to a poor grade steel as or was a replacement that was ground touch and bent. As far as tiller if memory serves me from conversation with those who know better than me. The lower limb was made a bit shorter and stiffer. Would have to consult the Grumley experts. Can't wait for new latch to shoot again.
