mystery bow...help with I.D.
« on: February 04, 2014, 09:27:00 AM »
I picked this bow up around thanksgiving. I can't find a single marking on the bow, maybe there are some markings under the grip, but its really on there and I'm not sure if I want to remove it. Bow is 56", scales at 53@28 on my el cheapo scale. Appears quality made, but most of the clear coat is gone. I'm guessing it was made in the 50's or 60's?

Any help appreciated!

The first thought reminds me thy bow from glass, tips, wood + limbs to a "Custom Bow Co", La Mesa, Cal.

But not the riser.-(which does not mean anything)

I'm thinking Indian Archery? Looks like a great bow. I'd do a complete strip and refinish. Would be an awsome hunting bow.

Indian sounds like it might be right. I see they did make a 56" model, "Hawkeye". I figured it as more of an affordable, "working man's bow". It shoots pretty nice, a touch loud. My only problem with it is that it likes to be braced at 6 1/2 to 7", and with the long piece of shelf behind the grip I can't shoot 5" feathers off the shelf. 4" feathers moved all the way back in the fletching jig still don't give as much clearance as I would like. I just added the feather rest so when it warms up some hopefully I can get it tuned and set up more to my liking. Can't complain for $35!

IMHO, The grip looks like crap,  Take it off and see what's under it.

Not going to argue with you there, it does look like crap. I'm sure I will end up removing it but I'm betting I won't find anything under it. I don't believe I've ever seen markings that high up before. I could be wrong though.

The color reminds me of Root archery.
