1963 dogleg Kodiak
« on: August 26, 2014, 09:42:00 PM »
Just received an email notification that I have purchased a 1963 dogleg Kodiak on the big site.  I have been waiting a long time for the stars to line up correctly and complete a deal on a clean 63 worth the money.  I have mixed emotions though.  The prices that I am seeing the old bows sell for now are not what I expected when I was paying top dollar a few years ago.
I sure hope that some guys with deep pockets get interested in old Bears before I pass on and my wife sells them off.

I hear ya.

It seems prices have dropped about 1/3 on the more commom stuff while rare pieces have kept their value.

The bad economy was a huge part of it, but another factor figured in the equation.  When prices were high, I believe more and more old bows were dug out of storage which flooded the market.

BTW, if that dogleg is your first you will probably be in for a treat.  My favorites are those Bears from '59-'64, and they were all just fine.

It is my first dogleg but my 48th Bear.  I also love the bows from about 1958 to perhaps the mid sixties.  Probably half of them fall into that time frame with fourteen pre 1957 and the rest mostly late sixties.  I think that I only have two produced in the seventies, one being the Grizzly that I just cleaned up and a really sweet Victor that is low poundage.
