Kodiak Hunter question

Does the serial number of a bear kodiak hunter indicate what month and year it was manufactured? The number of mine is KT47235.

No, the serial number can get you close but is not as exact a the numbering system from 1965-1969.

For that serial number you'd need the color of the bow and type of coin. I saw the list once but can't find it now.

KT----tells you it was after 1970 (K) and a Kodiak Hunter (T).  Like Reddoge said, the color of the bow, type of coin and even the color of the nock and riser overlays can help narrow it down closer. Also the location of the silk screen logos will help.

Posting a few pictures of the bow could help narrow down the year.  Wood, limb glass, coin, silkscreen placement, bushing, ink color used on the serial # can all be used to help narrow it down.

Can anyone tell from the photo if the medallion is nickel or plastic? It looks like its made of metal to me.

Here is the history on the bow. I am the original owner. I bought it from a archery range in the early part of 1971... I believe. It was a long time ago and things are getting a little fuzzy these days. I can't remember if I ordered the thread insert or if it was already on the bow in stock, all I remember is telling the guy I wanted it because I wanted to get a fishing spool for it.

I'm guessing it is either a 1970 model or a 1971, can anyone tell me if the riser wood is Pau Ferro/African Bubinga or Shedua/African Bubinga?

My first NEW bow was a '71 KH which cost me a whopping $50 at a Great Falls, Mt sporting goods store...so Napi, remember what you paid?

Those 70-71 models are the best IMO of the KH's, and mine is Shedua/Bubinga.

Lon, I wish I could remember. I was twenty years old and had been working over two years at a pretty good job, still living at home... money was not an object. I probably paid whatever the going rate at the time was.

I believe it's a 1972.  Why?

1) The KH silkscreen is on the belly.  If it were a 1971 it would be on the back.

2) The coin is raised.  Since you're the original owner I would assume it's also the original coin.  1971 would be flat, and I think most 1972's would be flat too, but somewhere in 1972 they introduced raised coins.

I have 2 1972's.  Great bows!

I have to correct myself. Mine was a '72 and had the stabilizer mount in it too. I just found a picture of it.

After scouring the archives of this forum I've been coming to the same conclusion. I guess I could have made the purchase in 1972... must've been. It is a great bow, I've rediscovered it and have been shooting it a lot.

It's a 1972 model but , like cars, there was a changeover period where old and new was mixed together. Good bow.
