Old Arrows
« on: October 16, 2016, 12:13:00 PM »
Hello, I am a newby.  I Joined because I was looking for information, and I found a lot of it Here! So the only respectable thing to do is participate.

I recently purchased, a dozen arrows off my local CR. I thought they were wood and was planning on shooting them. When I saw them. I realized they are glass, and likely 50yrs old! I had to buy them because they looked like they came out of a time capsule.

I have no intention of selling them, but I am not sure if i should shoot them or give them to an archivist.
Any advice or thoughts aill be appreciated.
Hopefully I can figure out how to get some pictures on here!

Thanks, Lignaphile

Fiberglass arrows were very common back in the day with many of us still using them from time to time.

Are these Microflight, Herter's Farbenglass, or ???

Rarity and collectability are minimal for most of these, but still great for shooting if in good shape.

I am old but know nothing about old arrows.  I just wanted to say welcome to Tradgang Flem.  Now you need to get some bows that are as old as those arrows and enjoy some classic archery.

Shoot the crap out of them.  They are a heck of a lot tougher than ,wood, aluminum, or carbon arrows.  I still use them from time to time.  I like to pick them up from e8ay and refletch them.  About the only thing that will damage them is side slapping a tree, shooting into concrete at steel, at maybe being hit by another arrow.  If you have the right spine for your bow you will love the way they fly.

Sorry I have not tried to post any pictures since my first failure.
I will tell you all this, they are Kittredge arrows. The best I have been able to tell, they must be from the late 1950' to early 1960'. The box is labeled from Altadena CA. They have never been shot.
I think my OS is so outdated it has trouble with pics and such. I will try another computer to load some pics.
