Kodiak Magnum help
« on: October 17, 2016, 12:51:00 PM »
My brother just gave me a Kodiak Magnum. its in rough shape.
first it is stamped display right below the coin that is missing. it is stamped 22 right on the serial number. it looks like bubinga or something in the riser, not sure what they used but it is reddish brown. The glass is green. the serial number is 15B91. its 52" 48#. The glass is in bad shape. I was thinking it might be a 61. display bow. My brother lives 30 minutes from Grayling.

It sure sounds like a '61, and a tough one to find in excellent shape...especially with non-stressed glass.  The '61 and '62 KM's are a couple of my favorites as well as the '71 version.

Question, Should I get it restored? Can I get a coin for it?

If it looks like the bottom bow, it is a 1961.

Warpedarrow.
It does look like the bottom one.
Anyone know where I can get new silkscreen and a coin?

Al Harford Jr. should have dry transfers.

Watch the auction site for a coin.  Mine looks to be pewter.  If you don't want to wait, buy a reproduction coin, paint it silver, then smear some black paint across the high spots.  I have purchased several reproduction coins from 3Rivers and a couple on the auction site.

Thanks Lon,

I actually have five now but hopefully not for long.  Decided to clean the racks and collect only Kodiaks and Kodiak Specials.  I listed the three 70's models on TBH today.  I will keep my 1961 and 1962 models and someday try to get the 63s but I find it hard to get excited about basically the same bow with a different colored stripe in it...
