If the coin is painted over I'm sure it's not factory. But I could be wrong. Just have never seen be come from the factory painted over the coin.

With the silk screen on top of the camo limb, the bow appears that it was originally a factory camo bow. Often times guys touched up spots on factory camo bows so doesn't surprise me that someone may have painted over the coin. I remember using a can of OD green Sears Weather beater to touch up my main hunting bow in the off season. I bought a gallon can that lasted for over 10 years and used it to re-camo nearly everything I used including bow, quiver, treestands and boat for bowfishing.

I'm thinking about stripping all paint off to its original wood. I been reading acetone works pretty good. Will it work with out hurting the bow?

Do not use acetone unless you are very experienced. It can start to work on the glues in the laminations. Better to use a less aggressive solvent and more aggressive elbow grease.

How things change. In 1969 my future father-in- law had a factory camo'd Kodiak Hunter that was the coolest thing I'd ever seen. Like Wade, I was pretty liberal with flat paint on my hunting bows, although I favored spray cans. Now folks cant wait to get that camo job stripped off.

I've adopted too many bows that needed a good home.

I have spent countless hours stripping off factory camo from old bows. My efforts were to remove the camo and leave the original finish intact, so much different than simply removing everything and refinishing the bow. Hate to admit to actual hours I have spent on some of them. Did actually keep track of the time to remove factory camo from a Grumley Deerslayer, it was over 40 hours total.

While I was initially more than pleased with my efforts to transform that dull, unexciting bow into one of the most beautiful original finish solid osage Bush Bows that I ever laid eyes on, I later came to deeply regret removing that dull unexciting finish.

Mangonboat is correct, acetone is really a very powerful substance, that can remove a lot more than initially intended if used carelessly.

Well over 40 years ago, the use of Sears Weatherbeater was a matter of economics for me. An equal quantity of spray paint was far more expensive than a gallon of Weatherbeater on sale.

Also regret removing camo from a bow. Took the paint off a 59' Kodiak. Found out later it was factory camoed.   :banghead:
