Going on the DL
« on: July 13, 2007, 12:08:00 AM »
I just started shooting a few weeks ago and I've been having a blast, and as they say....all good things must come to an end.  I've noticed increased pain in my left shoulder so I had the doctor check it out today (was there for a broken foot!).  Looks like I'm going to need surgery on my shoulder.  I have a torn rotator cuff and some tendon and ligament damage...maybe even some cartlidge issues (shoulder is crunchy).  The doctor was moving my arm around and it dislocated in her hands, so she had to figure out how to put it back in.   :D    Years of martial arts and kickboxing are catching up to me I fear.   :(

Bummer man, looks like some time off is in the works. When you do come back and start shootin' don't do too much too soon. In the mean time hang out here and catch up on your readin'.    :coffee:

Yeah definitely some time off coming up, lots of physical therapy too from what they tell me.  I can't wait!  Luckily my GF shoots left handed so I can use her bow to rehab the shoulder, I've been shooting left handed lately anyway just for the heck of it (hurts a bit less).  My draw length is actually an inch longer (32" as opposed to my RH 31") when I shoot left handed, I guess it's due to the lack of range of motion in my left shoulder (hurts to hold my left arm up and in front of me)?  I'll still shoot up until the day of surgery, even left handed if I have to!  I have definitely been  bitten by the bug!

Matt, been there, done that. Had surgery on August 8th and was back shooting the mzloader for our PA Doe/BP season mid-Oct. Made it to the last week fo the season for archery.  And I was then approaching mid-50's!!!  :)

You can do this. Get them to cut you soon and do EVERYthing they tell you.. I kept making the doc's andPT people nuts saying, "Show me the difference between "pain" and 'injury". I'll deal with the pain as long as I don't injure what's been done. They did. I did and I was shooting my hunting bow by mid season! Wellenough to hunt from a ground blind by end of season.

Also like you had lots of other stuff in there... shredded tendons from spurs, torn rotator, impingement needing ground down.

You ain't out of it yet!  :)   Good luck and prayers for a good outcome and wisdom to find that doc approved point between "pain and damage".  :)
The words "Child" and "terminal illness" should never share the same sentence! Those who care-do, others question!

Keep at it as long as you can without injuring yourself further. Ijust shot a 3-d shoot today with a broken back the docs say it won't be reinjured by shooting so I'm out shooting .Prayers sent for a speedy recovery Delin
