Butting heads with tree rats.

I've had time to kill (pun intended) since I have not been working this week. Took these two tree rats with a home made blunt.  .38 shell over a field tip, total weight 200 gr. on a 31" 2216. I'm using my 45# @ 28" Red Wing Hunter. Both were head shots. The bigger of the two went right down as his head was crushed. The other ran about 10 yards and came to a halt. The flu flu didn't have time to slow the arrow since the shots were both with in 10 yards.

Nice shooting. I am getting ready to hit the bunny patches soon. Of course, tree rats are still out and about in full force too.

Squirrels are my favorite critter to hunt. Been awful slow this year around here however. Our mast crop was non-existant. Haven't seen anywhere near as many as we usually do. Good shooting. Head shots is the way to go.

Rico, no way am I 2 for 2. I have missed many shots. Honestly, these were some lucky shots. They are tough to hit.

I think .38 blunts are pretty much the cat's meow when it comes to squirrels. Killed more than a few with them, bladed and non-bladed...

Hey Jerry,

I'm on vacation until after Christmas. Since my son and I are going away this weekend to my cousin's home, I decided to bring along out longbows and some arrows. I remembered she has been having tree rat troubles so I made some tree rat arrows using a .38 special shell, drilled out the used primer and screwed on a 100 gr field point. I then placed a #10 flat washer behind the field point to get the weight to 175 -180 gr neighborhood.
Nice shooting by the way. I hope to get lucky with the tree rats too.
