Practise with the Big "C"
« on: May 18, 2010, 09:03:00 PM »
Not Compound. Cancer. Throat cancer to be exact. Start Chemo this Friday. After that radiation therapy to the throat. Lots of bad side effects from what they tell me. Bad thing is I don't feel sick. Looking for some support and advise from any of you guys that have been through this sort of thing.

Another 'good luck' from NJ.  On a positive note, the fact that you don't feel sick right now is a blessing.  Hopefully it also means that you have a better outlook than otherwise.  Hoping for the best.

They tell us the "only thing to fear is fear itself".  Don't borrow worry. Attitude seems to be 90% of the battle with this nasty biz... One wrote on here that their partner refused to dignify the malise with the name "cancer" so called it "pickles" to be in control...we name things we can control. Neat idea.

Numerous folks on here have battled through ...but best I can tell, each persons reaction to chemo is somewhat different.

May God grant you His healing touch, the strength to face this square on and the power to have faith to move mountains (and pickles).

Keep the Son in your eyes!
The words "Child" and "terminal illness" should never share the same sentence! Those who care-do, others question!

Prayers sent for you. Not just for the affliction but for your spirit to remain uplifted with positive expectations.

I also pray for His peace for you which goes beyond our ability to understand the "why" of it.

I can promise if you focus on Him He will see you through.

God bless,Mudd

Scott,

It is my wife Pam, that called cancer "Pickles".

Here is what I wrote on the other thread.  May you find some comfort in her experience!

----- my Wife did not like the word cancer. So, she wouldn't say it. She wasn't denying that she had cancer. She just wanted to have some control over it.

She decided to call it something else. She thinks the word "Pickles" is funny. She called cancer "Pickles" and would laugh and she wasn't so scared.

Find little things to laugh about, it helps.

Oh, I got her a little stuffed animal. It was a Pug, she called it Pickles. She took it to the hospital and chemo and radiation. I am surprised the darn thing doesn't glow.

Now, Pickles has an honored spot on the bed stand. He is not a reminder of how difficult the times were but Pickles is a reminder of her will to be strong and turn the cancer into something she could fight.

Lastly, I don't capitalize the C in cancer. It doesn't deserve that kind of recognition. ------

Praying for you....keep a good outlook and those days you are not feeling well do the things you love to do anyway! Like Matt said, if you need to talk to somebody call a buddy and talk about it, whether Matt or a friend. If they aren't available call me.

Buckdown asked that I update everyone with a report. I wish I could say that all is well, but not this time. I survived the Chemo treatments. The first treatment put me in the local ER for a day. I'm going thru Radiation now. 11 more treatments to go and then surgery to remove the cancer noids in my neck. I've had bad reactions from the Radiation. I lost the ability to speak, and had to have a feeding tube put in to be able to eat. This has been hard on me but mostly on my poor wife, who is my caregiver. I don't see any hunting in my near future. I hope to have my strength back enough to at least go camping in January. Thanks for your prayers.

Only thing I can say is God is not suprized by this thing. _ will pray for you thru this thing and that God will keep you focused as well. It is our focue that determinds our mind set. If we tend to focus on the negtive we will see that in everthing we do and everything that affectes us. It is when we focus on Christ that He takes our eyes off what we see and hear and showes us his will for our live. We keep that focus by studing His word, by praying and by praising Him. I will pray for you and that  your focus will be on the right things. God bless you and yours.......Dusty
