my Father has passed
« on: October 18, 2010, 01:22:00 PM »
Let me start by saying that I don't post much, so most of you don't know me. I just felt the need to write a little about my Father.

While Pop was never a bow-hunter,he was a hunter. He instilled in me the love of the outdoors & hunting. He loved squirrel, rabbit & duck hunting. In his later years he stopped hunting, said his legs couldn't do it anymore. He still enjoyed the game that I brought to him though.

Pop was also a WW II veteran.US Army.He wouldn't talk much about the war. Wouldn't watch war movies. But every now and then, when the mood struck him, he would tell me stories. He didn't like the war,and didn't like the things he had to do.But he said "It had to be done."

My Dad lived to be 94. Lived alone since 98 when mom passed.Mowed his own yard was still a good driver. When the end came it was fast. He went into the hospital Monday afternoon, and died at 1 am wed. mourning. His family was with him, and I was at his bedside holding his hand. Just before he passed he squeezed my hand and stroked it with his thumb. Here I was trying to comfort him and He was trying to comfort me. I loved him dearly and I will miss him.

What a grand way to go..holding onto independence and dignity until the very end.

Cudos to you, Russle Bowen... You did it right!

You are remembered well by your loved ones and your Son, Tom.

I am sure he was comforting you, he knew life and how precious it truly it.  May God rest his soul and may have eternal rest and continue on with his spiritual life with your Mother.  Prayers sent to you and your family during this time, but you have a lifetime of wonderful memories to get you through this.  Remember, he is always there with you.

This is why we are able to hunt and enjoy all the things we do because of those who did and are doing what MUST be done....While I didn't know your Father I know the type and what they are made of. They do what has to be done for no other reason then that and don't talk much about it afterwards. There are several on here who have served and are serving and have done and will do what needs to be done. We still the memorys and the dreams that will continue to live with us till we die.

I am honored to pray for your family and to celebrate the life of your Father. When I sit on stand I find myself remembering the people who have enabled me to enjoy what I'm doing in still the GREATEST NATION in the world. I serve a riasen Lord and bleed RED WHITE and BLUE......

It is with the unmost respect that I say, "Thank you for sharing this with us". ..........Dusty

tom i don't know you are you dad, but you you drew a mirrored image of my dad and the relationship we had. he was a korean vet, hard working, committed to his family, didn't talk of the war until real late in life, i believe he didn't find peace until he was saved at 71, that he had been forgiven for his part in the war. he also was from a generation that they didn't show there emotions, they were raised to be tough. my mom passed two years ago, he lived alone two years before passing this feburary. i was also blessed that i could be holding his hand when he went to be with the lord. i to remember our times hunting, when he would come in early to wake me, i can remember those words, quietly saying, hey son lets go. precious memeories, how they linger. isn't it precious tom to have those memories. i feel so sad for so many childern today that will never know what special dads we had. i know you cherish your memories with him. we have the comfort in knowing they are with jesus and we will see them again. he is with your mom, i asked that one of my favorite songs be play at my dads funeral, "WISH YOU WERE HERE", i wanted my brothers and sisters to find peace knowing they were together and are doing fine waliking with jesus. tom in jesus words, john 14: 27, Peace i leave you; my peace i give you. may GODS peace and joy fill you in these sad times, but joyous memories of you precious dad.

I'm so sorry for your loss, but know that wednesday at 1:00.01 your dad was with the Lord. Isn't that great? That we have a savior that loves us enough to personally bring us into his house. I don't know you but to me that is exciting. I know and understand your pain and missing someone is terrible as it leaves a GIANT hole in your heart. Fill that hole with the spirit and he will comfort and nourish you.

Very sorry for your loss, but heaven has just gotten a little grander. Lost my Dad three years ago this Thanksgiving weekend. Miss him much now as then.... Live life for the savior and to see him again.

In his grip,
