Shoulder update
« on: August 02, 2016, 08:58:00 PM »
Been too much rehab in too short a period for my liking... Course, nobody said older life would be hassle free!  :)

Saw the shoulder surgeon.  Week 7 tomorrow post op...he's tickled with progress he says...ultra conservative and peepy steps here on out, but I can loose the blasted sling, try (emphasis on "TRY") sleeping in my bed after a recliner all these weeks...

And now I"m doing some "gravity-based" exercises where before it was all "assisted"... said to utilize but not use it (arm)...meaning I can move it around lots (NOT out to the side) but not to lift with it for ANOTHER 4 weeks or so... gads!

Archery season looks like a no go this year! Dang!  But... maybe next... time is slipping by...

PS: Do NOT move and start over in a new state later in life...it's hard to find haunts where in to hunt...lest you're well heeled and can pay to hunt!            :bigsmyl:

Yeah not being able to hunt sucks. Hoping to go bear hunting this month.
But his bow will remain steady, and his hands will be skillful; because of the hands of the Mighty One of Jacob, because of the Shepherd, the Rock of Israel,  (Genesis 49:24 [NETfree])

Doc I feel your pain Brother. As I mentioned a few times I went through a few years of no hunting due to a severed right hand that got mistaken for a log going through a log splitter.
I was Blessed by God to have it reattached, pinned back on with 8 pins and about a year of therapy and another few years to recover
I thought therapy was a waste of time but learned otherwise. My dad made me a adjustable hang man rig that had a platform that slid under the bed and I could put my sling in and hold my arm upwards to keep the swelling down in my hand.
I slept this way for about 6 to 8 months and couldn't stand it but knew it was for my own good.
It can get frustrating waiting for a full recovery but "Hang" in there it will get better and sounds like the Dr. is happy with your progress.
As far as not able to shoot for a while and not able to hunt well still go and sit on stand or find a good natural fallen tree and take your bible instead of a your bow and enjoy the creations God gave us without the bow.
You still get to enjoy the smells of autumn and the creatures in their habitat.
Another thing is to go and watch a friend shoot his/her bow and give him/her a few pointers if he/she needs any.
Sounds like you are doing your homework and taking care of your arm and before you know it you will be back shooting again.
I'll pray for a speedy recovery for you.

thanks, all.  Good advice, Keith... MOving to TN has been a disappointment in the hunting dept... and this area has scant few archers of the traditional persuasion it seems... I'm not driving 4-4.5 hrs West to Old Farts...

But this shoulder thing will pass...

Damn, Doc, you sure got it handed to you. If you just need the camp time, and the opportunity to roam some free woods, I would like to help.

I haven't killed a deer in ten years, but still have a camp every fall. ApplePie, from the Nashville area comes up, and a buddy from down the street. I have a cookshack, and would help you set your tent.

It isn't the shooting, it's being in the presence of the Creator's creations. PM me if you like.

I would buy tickets and drive all the way down to watch that show.. Doc telling Killdeer to raise her bow arm more or stop snap shooting. You need to cant the bow more.. You ain't holding the bow right etc. etc. etc. That would be some "Good Medicine"   :biglaugh:

I've seen killy dear shoot and she could school ME!

I don't sleep in tents, cots, etc no more. Uncle Arty Ritis has seen to that! Sold the hard side pop up camper to another trad archer.

I had too much to move... looking back... well, hindsight is always 20-20!

Thanks for the invite, Kathy.. be nice to see ole apple Pie again...  :)

TN, Charlie is a wide, wide state...farther West you go, the more deer... not so many here in the more mountain and foothills, but West toward Knoxvlle and such, the Cumberland Plateau, has more, but then elevation drops...I was told the farther West you go, the lower the elevation and higher the heat and humidity...

But more deer. Here there are some and bear and turkey...

It's WHERE to hunt... seems that locals won't allow hunting cause most run some cattle...and the "hold my Beer and Watch This" crowd turned folks off to hunting...

The heavy deer population is far west where there is agriculture... but mostly leased land I'm told...long drive!

So deer here, just not many places to hunt and being retired, old, wrinkly and ornery, I don't get to meet enough folks to find that ONE guy who'd let me hunt...

Alas, This could change... THIS YEAR, it's rehab on the shoulder that will limit bow hunting... might get the later season with boom sticks... just to get out and about.

Saw my first Velvet Ant/Wasp the other day... lots of things makes a body want to embrace cooler weather afore hitting the forests!
