what is the average total cost including guide(s), airfare, transportation, food, and tags. would like to go some day!

Its hard to give you an average cost, what will apply today will be wrong next year.

In todays market flight from Atlanta to Jo-berg South Africa will be between $1700-1800 plus your cost to Atlanta. Out of New York about the same.

No Tags or licenses needed, but you will pay the PH $300-350 per day with usually 7 to 10 days hunting.

Trophy Fees will also vary from PH to PH. But they can go something like this:
1. Blesbuck $380 2. Bush Pig $350 3. Gemsbok $900 4.Impala $250-300 5. Hartebeest $850-900 6.Eland $1900-2000 7. Blue Wildebeest $850-900 8. Wart hog $175-200 9. Kudu #1200-1500 10. Zebra $900-950 11.Sable $2500-3000
All depends how many you shoot as to the end cost. Keep in mind you draw blood you PAY!!!

Then there is cost of getting the trophys home, they will come several months later and unless you share cost with someone else, that could be $1500 up depending on how many you shoot. and don't forget the taxidermist fees.

It is a hunt you will never forget, the varitiy of game is mind boggling. I thought I could only go once and be satisfied! WRONG! going again in July. It sounds like a lot of money, but if you start saving for it a few bucks a month, it can be done in two or three years. Many times outfitters will donate a hunt to various organizations as a fund raiser. they can be excellent values. Two years ago at PBS banquet a 10 hunt with 5 animals included went for $2600, that is a steal! for under $5000 you have a great hunt.

Adam; made the trip last year for 14 days plus time pre and post hunt for photography and touring soup to nuts I earmarked $12,500 and am currently waiting for the S/H of 10 skulls and hides. Many outfitters show good priced hunts for package deals but remeber there is many add on to consider, with that said I would not hesitate to recommend this trip of a life time, spent 3 years planning saving etc, and that was half the fun currently looking to find funds for a return. My last shipping and tanning bill was $4,000.00 US so don't underestimate this one. This was from Zim to New Metheod in San Francisco.

I heard someone a few years ago give advice about Africa. He said "If you don't have the money, borrow the money and go. If you try to save the money you might never make it. If you borrow the money you will pay it back."

  I have a friend who is a missionary in S.Africa. He just went back over after a brief time in the states. His travel time from Raliegh, NC to Capetown was 41 hours.

The hunt and tropy fees vary by country.  My wife and I went and I shot 6 animals for 11K.  This included the airfare of about 1750 for each of us.  I can give you good travel agent for trip.   As previous person answered the mounts and shipping them to US can be a substantial expense.  Have skull mounts put on placques so that they are "finished product" that can come via ocean instead of air.  I know good PH that is familiar with traditional archers.  If you can go you should.  I thought it would be trip of a lifetime but went back again.

I just got back and trophy fees as well as guide fees vary. the place I went an Impala was $100.00 Blue wildbeast $500.00 Eland was $1100.00 and it only cost $100.00 per day to hunt. The places the locals go to hunt are alot cheaper than the ones set up for americans.

MY total cost for 3 animals (kudu, gemsbok, warthog) including everything (yes, even taxidermy and shipping) except airfare was right around $8800.

The money will be well spent. My wife and I went last year and spent 10 days hunting w/Dreis Visser and 10 days touring. Total cost was $22,000 I saved up for 5 years but lemmie tell ya boys, you'll never spend your money and get more enjoymentout of it. Not for a new boat or car or anything else.

Didn't mean to scare everyone off here. You can do it lots cheaper than we did. My attitude was that I was not gonna be sitting in a blind with a calculator. Allot of costs are payable in advance. It's not like you hafta have $20 grand all at once. Gene Wensel booked us and I just sent him a grand everytime I could scrape one up. By the time we left Atlanta, everything was already paid for.
