Yes.  Nothing goes to waste, like they say.  But, I'm similar.  I was raised that you take it home, package it up, and eat it during the winter.  So, I am still a little "bummed" that I could not bring any meat home with me -  this was a different experience for me.

I think the real issue is not whether or not the meat is wasted but whether the predation of a species is such that the species is sustainable.  The system in South Africa, and a couple other countries today has allowed for the planes game to be not just "sustainable" but to augment in numbers.  This is a good thing, in my estimation.  In countries like Kenya, where hunting has been outlawed, the various game species have been steadily decreasing in numbers - mostly because these animals have no value to the local people....

I killed a Elephant.
We went back the next day and there was nothing left but the grass that had been in the belly.
Everything was gone, not so much as a toe nail remained

Killed a Jackal in June in Nabibmia. The P.H. was Estactic!! 32 yds. Missed him 1st. time. He said shoot!! I sliced Him Bad along the shoulders. wasn't a take down shot but the P.H. laughed his Ass off!! Said No Matter, If the other Jackals don't eat him the infection will kill him.  Told me it was the Best Shot he'd ever seen!!
