Is this sufficient for africa?
« on: November 10, 2007, 10:12:00 PM »
I would like to take my longbow to Africa to hunt Kudu, impala, gemsbok, ad wildebeest. It shoots a 630 grain 2016 easton legacy with a two blade stos a whopping 143 fps.  I believe it is adequate, however, I have not yet put it to the test with live animals.  This setup penetrates very well for my targets.

Thankyou!

a target is no way to measure penetration.  unless it has bones.  im shure it is good enough for the smaller critters the wildebeast altough i think is prety tough. im shure with good placement you could do it.  the stos is a good choice.

I used a 54# Pronghorn with 675 grain arrow and 2 blade Magnus (narrow). Never did check the speed but it worked very well. Location, location, location!!!

I don't know what speed it was going but my wife just recently shot a 1200 pound bison with a 613 grain arrow out of a 46# @ 28" recurve which she is drawing 26 inches.  The arrow went in up to the fletch.  Like sparrow said it is "location, location, location"  If you put your arrow combo in the right place it will work just fine.  Joseph
