Need more spine
« on: May 16, 2008, 09:35:00 PM »
My 84 @ 28 PSX recurve came in. The heratiage shafts with 10" of terminator shats and 18" of 8 grain per inch weight tube are extremly weak. Almost so far nock left they wont stick in the target. I have a dozen Grizzly stick Safari shafts that are close but only weigh 788 grains. I think I need a full lenght shaft that will fit into my heratiage 350 but can find any thing with a 1/4" OD. I used up what few shafts I had here at the house makling the 10" inserts. What do you buffalo hunts do to get a 900 + grain arrow to fly from your bows?

I read somewhere a guy filled his shaft with sand.

Buff,

The Beman Carbon Flash might work. According to the Lancaster Archery catalogue they come in 13/64, 14/64 and 15/64 outside diameter with the lighter spine shafts being the skinniest. They don't list the diameter on the website but at $29 a dozen it won't be too bad if they don't work.
One man thinks he can, the other doesn't. Both are right!

Do a search in the dangerous game section for heavy arrows or buffalo arrows. There's been some good discussion there, with Rick McGowan offering some double-shaft suggestions.

I think a 1/4in dowel would be great, add weight in the shaft and add some point from the stiffened spine. I wonder if it would make the shaft stronger.
