Leafy Suit choice for KwaZulu-Natal South Africa
« on: April 18, 2012, 11:10:00 AM »
I want to buy a leafy suit for my trip next month. What would some of you recommend for South Africa, KwaZulu-Natal area?

Thank you

Hi Coaster 500

I would go for darker greens and black maybe a little bit of yellow grass.

All the best for your hunt!

sorry Kip, for seeing this only after you have returned from africa- but thought i might just answetr anyway- for the benefit of others.
i assumne you are hunting in winter( hunting is available all year round in africa).
but nothing beats the asat leafy suits. i am originally from natal, in S.A. and i took calgary chef back there hunting- check out his thread "40 days in africa" (i think!!)
look at all the natural colours on the game there, and believe me they hide pretty well!!- look at the dirt and the tree trunks- thats where you are gonna be hiding. besides all the acacias etc lose their leaves- not too much bright green moss and green oak leaves around in the semi-arid bushveldt.the asat is on a mesh backing wich helps with ventilation too - the asat is the best- without a doubt!!- personal experience.

I just saw this one too, ASAT all the way.  Actually the only place I've been let down by the colours was in Scotland during the green season.  I was sitting down in the bush once with Fujimoto and he was avout 15 yards away and of course I knew exactly where he was but darned if I could actually see him, asat is that good.

i know the colour thing seems a worry (it is always a worry to me too!!) - especially when one is in the moister climes-and hence greener shrubbery.
however, besides the good colours on the asat pattern, i honestly believe the pattern combined with the "leafy" effect actually breaks up the human profile-and creates an unrecognisable shape.
last weekend i shot a blacktail at 6 yards standing with my back against a luminious green 10' high young hemlok tree, and nothing in front of me.when the buck got broadside i started my draw slowly- he stopped and looked at me with his head bobbing and peering curiously at me- but he couldnt figure out what i was.
so i swear by the ASAT.
i would however love to see them increase their product range a bit- with camo nets etc.
wayne
