? about longbow build along
« on: December 23, 2007, 02:35:00 PM »
i want to build a 1 piece longbow and i have a few questions.
can you have too much reflex deflex, i know if the string touches the limb it is a recurve but what about a radical reflex deflex, will it be inconsistant or have any disadvantages.

i have heard that black glass will give alittle more performance than clear glass, i don't care about looks at all, i just want a high performance hunting bow that i will probably paint back anyway.

does anyone have a 1 piece longbow build along. i have been looking in the how-to and campfire section but can't seem to locate one. i could have swore there was one someone did not to long ago.

Haven't built a one piece, but where did you hear that black glass gives a little better performance?  Haven't heard that before, thanks.  Steve

The color of the glass will have no effect.  Performance would come down to design.  Too radical of a design could lead to an instable bow.

If I were you I'd order the Bingham longbow plans and go from there.  If it's your first bow then start simple - perhaps a straight limb longbow.  If you have a longbow you can also trace its outline to get a template.

I have haerd from Several sources that Black glass does indeed give better performance. Probably very minimal but still better. Now the answer as to "Why" I have no idea. LOL

I've never built a bow but have read in more than one place that black glass would give the best performance. Hap

Black glass usually makes a 2# heavier bow,all other dimentions being the same but I cant see any performance advantages.
