Bow stringing question

This might be kind of basic, but I saw a guy on the masters of the bare bow video, string up a bow by what looked like wedging the bottom against his foot and pushing the bow away and the string up. Looked pretty slick. Is this an acceptable way of doing it compared to the step thru method? Can it be done using a recurve?

Or is it safer to just stick with a good ole bow stringer?

long bow ONLY... It's the Push/pull way of stringing the bow & Un stringing the bow...

Stick with a GOOD bow stringer.  Just my opinion, but stringers were invented for a reason, and I use them religiously.  Hope you have a great Holiday Season.

I wrote a post for you...But I feel like the tinman in the wizard of oz.I got a new brain..... It's just not working as well as the old one was and it dumped my info.I mean my computer brain.Long bow push pull OK,but recurves and long bows really should always be strung with a bow stringer.It's safer for the bow and prevents twisting of the limbs or in the worse case missing the lower string noc and breaking your bow....But it's way safer for you.Long bows are not so bad,but a wet recurve limb will slip out of your hand while push pull stringing.And they kinda like to poke your eye out.So I would say always,always us a bow stringer.Most all new production bows come with bow stringer.bd

I agree with the wise advise to always use a stringer. This topic has come up before in various circles and there are some very well respected archers who push-pull. As Bowdoc stated I have actually read of eye injuries and at least one unconfirmed loss of an eye. I know people will say otherwise. I won't take a chance on my eye or my bow. I can't afford to replace either one.

I use the push-pull method for longbows. It will work with recurves, too, but I had one get away from me one time and gave me a pretty good whack on the cheekbone, just missung my eye. I don't do that anymore. Even with a longbow, I look away from the tip as I am stringing it.

Stringer only for me. I have a couple of bows that would be hard to impossible to replace and I don't wanna mess them up.

BE SAFE!!  Use a Stringer!! It Doesnt Take That Long, and You wont Look Like Pirate with an Eye Patch!!!
