Which Bandsaw
« on: December 26, 2007, 10:59:00 PM »
I'm looking for recommendations on a bandsaw. I want try my hand at one or the Bingham bows and maybe build a couple of bows for some eager Boy Scouts. Would like something middle of the road that is both functional and reasonable. Suggestions??
One stick, one string and an arrow I'll fling!

If I was going to buy a new saw this would be it.

I second Dano's suggestion. I have a Grizzly band saw, table saw, belt sander and other goodies. They sell very good tools, have parts readily available when needed and a great tech support system.        Pat

Stay away from the cheep models ie ryobi and a couple other are not to good. They are way to small and over heat quick.Buy the best you can afford.bd

Grizzly.  Either the one Dano suggested or the next model down (a bill cheaper) would have more than enough power and area great performers.

Guys, I have a whole toolbox full of Ryobi tools that I use VERY hard at work.  I just recieved a new 9" Ryobi bandsaw for Christmas----and I am excited to see if it performs like the rest of my tools. I have seen the cordless tools outperform and outlast DeWalt and Bosch.

I just went through the same decision making process and settled on the old standby - Craftsman.  I went with the 12-inch model with a 3/4 hp motor, best for the money that I could find and locally to save the shipping issues.

As I type this I'm at "work", on tradgang and reading the Owner's Manual for the new saw - how productive!

I'm taking a half day vacation to head home and set it up.  I'll let you know how it goes.

I just bought the Grizzly G0555X Extreme Bandsaw.  It is $200 more than the Ultimate but comes with enough upgrade stuff that I decided to splurge.  If I get real serious about bow building I probably will be glad that I did.

I did a lot of research and was originally going to get the Ultimate.  Dollar-for-dollar the Grizzly saws can not be touched by anyone.

If you want to buy THE BEST 14" saw then the Laguna tools is the one - $1500.
