As my dear old Dad use to say! I see all of these ads for limbs RH/LH. If the riser is made appropriately correct, what the hell is the difference in the limb structure? I'm sure my stupidity will be firmly established after this one.

You mean I could turn it upyside down and shoot backwards trick shooting? I just looked at the Fedora riser that I purchased w/2 sets of limbs. Now realized that I didn't ask the proper? When purchasing limbs for a T/D' should there really be any difference beween R or L?

Depends on the bow! A few manufacturers, especially the guys making real short T/D risers, will still cut away a portion of the top limb, to conform to the sight window in the riser.
Have a look at this.....

 

The top limb is 'clipped' on the left hand side to make up the window. If it were a left hander, this'd be on t'other side.
Hence; left & right handed limbs.

Yip the limbs are often shaped to match up to the riser! so they wont match up if you tried to put lh limbs on a rh riser or visa versa  :D

I would think purchasing new limbs for a bow would require giving the builder of the new limbs a pattern of the riser, or even better send the riser itself to the bowyer for a good match....please correct me if i'm wrong, but how else would those new limbs be adjusted to center up the string? Seems to me like it would take very little pin location variation to throw that string off center....There is also the tiller adjustment to factor in too, if i'm not mistaken.....

So....to answer the original question here, i'd have to say that yes it does make a difference top and bottom limbs would typically not be interchangeable IMO.

Ok....with all that said....let me have it guys....Don't hold back now...give me both barrels...i got my ears back, and my jaw set....Kirk

Being a shooter of wrong handed bows, Morrison's specifically, I don't see how Bob's bows matter as to whether the limbs are R or L handed. Top or Bottom does matter. Some bows are made, like the picture in one of the posts above, so that it does matter. Personally, as a lefty always in the market for "new" bows, the more information the better in a classifieds post. If a classifieds post doesn't have "LH" in the title, I don't bother looking. Unless it's a post for Morrison's new "cheyenne" limbs.

Hey Bowferd, depends on the bow. Some precision crafted (CNC) risers are inter-changeable with their limbs, such as my Border BD. I shoot both left & right handed so this is a real bonus.

Top & bottom usually does matter. Moreso with split finger tillering as the top limb is usually tillered sligthly weaker.

Depends on the bow I believe.  As stated above, some are made to fit the particular riser and have a cut out, others, (P. Predator MAY be one of them) do not appear to have a cut out.

Thanks for all the input you guys have been giving. The reason for the question is that at times in the trad bow ad section, I often see a post for limbs FS/FT. Usually they are classified as to RH/LH. Thought if I cuold pick a used set of limbs at a reasonable price that it would be a good investment. Don't want to purchase something I can't use. All of your help is sincerly appreciated.
