stand or still hunt?
« on: December 31, 2007, 08:47:00 PM »
Tomorrow, we expect twenty mph winds from the west blowing across the public hunting areas we like.  I say still hunt east to west (or possibly north/south) rather than take a stand and hope the deer are moving in spite of the wind.

What do you guys think?

You don't have to "stand" in a tree, and you don't have to do one or the other.  Do both,  Sit/stand for the first hour or two, then stillhunt and sit/stand for the last hour or two of the day if you haven't killed one by then.

Still hunting last week, got me my first squirrel.
20-25 mph and 30+ on the gusts. Had rabbits, squirrels and even a possum sighted from the ground.
Would not have seen any of them from a stand..my .02

I don't like being in a tree when the wind ain't blowing, dang sure ain't gonna be there at 20 mph.
If you've never been in the woods at daylight, and seen the world come alive, you haven't " Lived".

It's 3 degrees and win at 20 plus knots. Good day to not sit on a stand, stool or handy blow down.  Good day to stay home and chase the wife around the house.

We stillhunted.  The deer were better at hiding then we were at seeking but we did see a few bunnies and squirrels.

It was a great day.  :-)
