It looks like a young grizzly or brown to me. But one thing I've learned from bear experts across the years is that the more than know about bears, the less likely they are to make a "sure" call, as most or all have been fooled. But I'm no expert and I say young griz or brown. However, that looks like a ponderosa pine to me, and I don't think they grow in any griz country I know of. In any event, it could be a griz pic they took on a trip somewhere and simply submitted with the article, as TMB, like most magazines, encourage writers to provide pics with words, and pay more when you do. Anyone know Sam to ask? Ironically, this thread runs not far below "Help ID this Bear," which I thot would be "Is this a griz or a blackie or whut?" when in fact it is a Bear bow. Cool coincidence for an evening's TradGang entertainment.
