need pheasant hunting photo
« on: January 04, 2008, 01:50:00 PM »
Help, anybody here ever tried bowhunting pheasants?  I'm writing a quick article on the subject and would like a good field photo of an archer flinging an arrow at a flying rooster, or something similar.  I've seen some good photos like this in TBM recently........

Thanks.

That pic in flight was over on the "wall"...I saved it too.

Here is one for your success shots from a couple of years ago:

I was able to go out last week and got 4.  It was a VERY good day.  Usually I average 1 hit for 10 flushes.

That picture of the Pheasant with the arrow is mine, and it was in last months TBM.  I am not sure how copyright laws and the internet work together but in the days of 35mm film cameras the copyright of any original image automatically belonged to the photographer and any unauthorized use would be considered infringement.

If it was just in TBM you would have a contract that says it couldn't be used for, I believe one year.

If the photographer had permission from TBM that would change.  You best ask Bruce first and perhap if he was ok with it, he could request permission from TBM since the destination publication is complimentary to TBM and not competition.

So Bruce, can Jeff use the photo, since you are the photographer?

Lets leave this issue between Bruce and Jeff  :help:

It is an issue to be considered when we post and save photos.

There are at this point no Ill effects with this post. So to keep it that way We'll ask that opinions be done with Pm's or E-mails please.

Heck I like the Photos Too...........vance

Bowzonly - pm sent

I did not in any way intend for this to be an issue.  I have had the pic saved long before last months issue of TBM.

To all - Please accept my sincere apologies for the misunderstanding.

No problem, Vance.  Just trying to expedite the process a little since we need the article ASAP.

I know what you mean.  I've saved a couple of photos over the years and never used them and then I see them pop up somewhere else, by someone else.  Ah, modern technology and it's inherent unforeseen predicaments.  But without it, no Tradgang, etc.    :scared:

Hey, we all gotta see Bruce's cool photo!  Bruce enjoyed your story even more so since I grew up having Brittneys with grandparents in prime Nebraska pheasant country.

Thanks for the reply Jake.  I'm glad you like the shot.  I am not mad at anybody and don't feel wronged in any way.  I think I may have posted the pic in the first place.  If not I sent it out to several people involved in the hunt and they may have released it.  No matter, no big deal.  I just dont think it would be cool for somebody else to use it in their magazine article without at least having my permission.  By the way, I love that John Denver song.  Let me know what publication would like the Photo

Thanks everybody for the help.  I am writing a short article for the upcoming PBS magazine, for those who wish to try flinging some arrows at pheasants in conjunction with the Pittsburgh PBS Gathering.  If you will be at this Gathering, you might consider bringing your bow and arrows for some pheasant hunting.  Watch for the next issue of the PBS magazine for details, or check out the PBS web site.

Bruce, that is an awesome photo, but since it was already published we'll probably pass on it.  Your TBM article was very good and I'm going to try those home-made heads you described.  I forwarded several photos to Jack Smith, including my own.....
