What editing software do you use??
« on: April 01, 2007, 02:56:00 PM »
Greetings All,

I'm thinking gbout starting to try to film my hunts.  I was wondering, for those of you that dabble in this hobby, what editing software do you use and how much computer do you need to run it.

As far as cameras, I'm down to the Sony VX2100, or the Cannon GL-2.  All inpout on any of the above topics is welcomed!!

Thanks in advance.

Happy hunting,
Jason

I'm on a mac using their latest operating system and included is IPhoto and IMovie. Otherwise I'd use what came with the camera.  I have a Canon Rebel  XLR. Jawge

Rigs it really depends on what computer machine you are running.  there are several good choices but they are all expensive.
for MAC "Final Cut Pro" would be the 1st choice for me.

as for cameras, i just spent probably 3 months researching all the cameras on the market.  i would be glad to share some of what i found if you would like, just shoot me a pm.  fyi. i just bought a Canon XH A1 - HD camera. the HD aspect was not my main reason for buying this camera just icing on the cake.

Jason, I use Sony Vegas for my video editing.  I would highly recommend downloading trial versions before you buy one.  I tried several other video editing programs before I settled on Vegas.

I'm a Mac guy and I can't live without Final Cut Pro. But it's kind of pricey. If you could get a Mac, you'd be happy with iMovie, I'm sure...it's super simple to use. On the PC side, Vegas is a good choice, but a little pricey as well. If you're on a budget and want to stick with a PC, then take a look at Pinnacle's products...you can get them at Best Buy.

Another note, I'd go for the VX1000 over the GL-2...the controls are a little more intuitive, and the Sony is much better in low light situations...key for shooting hunts.

I have both Sony Vegas and Corel Ulead VideoStudio 11 Plus. I use both of them depending on what I'm trying to do. Like the gentleman said, you can download trial versions and test them out yourself. Seems to me like Corel has a bit of an edge on ease of use.

Stay away  from Pennical Studio. I bought it and after the slowest install in history it puts up a GUI screen for about 1 minute then exits. They warranty from them is they will give lip service for support for 1 month. If it don't work tough - no refund, no further help. And it ain't like I am an idiot - I do software for a living!! Well - that and build bows LOL

I'll tell you one to stay away from and that's MyDVD from Roxio/Sonic. I got that software with my Canon DC50 and it really stinks. Everytime you want to use it, you have to register the software. If you aren't connected to the web, you are screwed. Their tech support is a joke to.

I use Pinnicale Studio Plus Titanium 10.7, I also use a Macro System the Renommee very, very pricey and you don't get much for software with it.You have to buy software upgrades that cost about $200 per package. But the quality is great.

I own a GL2 and have for 6 years it's a great camera but I'm looking at Sony now because of the low light and I would like to look at HD cameras. I would go with Sony over the Canon.

I'm thinking of getting a Mac so anyone can offer some advise on them that would be great also.

This video was done using both systems the 1st the Macro and the Pinnicale.

Check it out,

Jim
