Canon Gl1 Owners

I just got a canonGl1 from a friend to use during turkey season.   He does not have the manual.    I have figured most of it out except how to change the date and time.

  Also how do I unload the image onto my PC?   I believe I need the disk from canon and the proper cables.  I went to circuit city and they did not have a clue,  they do not carry these cameras.   I think I have a canon dealer about 40 miles s/w of me and I may make a trip there to get a little info but if someone wants to help me I would appreciate it.   Thanks, Jim

Are you referring to pulling the image from a card or rather grabs from the actual tape?

Actual tape.    I know how to get the images from the card.

Grabs from video are done on software. Firewire into the machine and then a video editing program. I use a MAC platform and my video software is "Final Cut"

I would suggest something much less complicated. Nice thing about the GL1 is you can record in frame mode which allows a very clean image from video with no de interlacing required.

I am sorry if this sounds confusing. Pulling grabs from video is a little challenging depending on your hardware and software.

Glad to see you have this forum on this site, I joined just a day ago. I seen this post and wanted to respond to it. Tim is correct being able to use firewire is a big plus. I have been using a computer for over six years to edit my videos and the firewire has made it so much easier and better quality to work with.

Just a warning about buying video Cameras something I learned the hard way. Check to see how the Manufacture backs it up and repair cost after the warrenty runs out.
I own a GL1 which I have had for 5 years went to send it into Canon and have it cleaned and looked at and they wanted $400 just to clean it.

I found a place in Calf. and they charged me that for cleaning and replacing the head.

Great camera and has done a great job for me.

I do still have the owners manual if you need any info from it.
