Help needed. with bamboo lifting on back-Repair ?
«

Built a BBO a couple or three yrs back for a young man as a gift.He brought it to me today. The bamboo lifted at a node, and peeled back about 7 inches. It did not break clean thru to the osage but just lifted from the rind down to maybe a depth of 1/8" max. Any fixes ? I'm thinking glue it down and then wrap with a sinew wrap or equivalent around the node. What glue ? Got Urac and Super Glue. Thanks , Tim

Tim... I'd suggest using the superglue. Needs to be very thin and warm the area to be glued first.
Not so sure you'd need to wrap the area, but it couldn't hurt.

The super glue will penatrate well and is normaly stronger then the original bond.Maybe 1-2 pounds of presure with a couple C clamps.Carful not to squeeze out all the super glue...Then wrap it if you like as that could only add a little strength I would think.I know some of the long bow repair guy's wrap the spot and then put more super glue on the wrappings. The super is also better as you will not need heat to cure it,like with some epoxys.Good luck, keep us posted...bd

Tim,
Dean has an article on his website on this exact subject. Back wehn we were all using Moso bamboo, we learned how to do this repair. I sure don't miss that stuff.
Good luck!!

I glued the osage back together with URAC and put a new bamboo backing on this one. It is still shooting and been through 2 or 3 different owners since.
After the fix,
