Footing Carbon Arrows

I have seen several pictures of carbon arrows with aluminum footing glued on the end. Is there any special way to put them on? For instance how long is the piece of footing? What type of glue does one use to add this, etc?

CJ, same glue I use for all inserts: JB weld. 1 1/2 - 2" works pretty well on the ones i've done.

I've used a lot of glues, I think super glue is about the easiest. I really like about 1 inch of footing for my stump arrows. I have mixed feelings about broadhead hunting arrows. I think the extra thickness on the shaft might impead penetration.
Footed carbon arrows are about the toughest roving arrows I've tried.

I use two part 5min epoxy, and unlike most folks I opted for 4" because I wanted the extra weight upfront. 4" gave me about 40 grain, and with my 150 gr points for a total of 190 up front they fly pretty well. Only thing is when I come to full draw I'll feel the little bump of the footing coming up on the shelf even though I tapered it (footing).  Doesn't bother me, kinda like a built in clicker.  I also place the forend of the footing flush with my insert so there is a smooth transition between my points or broadheads and the shaft.  I'm using 5575 GT traditionals.  I think the footings were some 2216s Eastons I had laying around.

I use .30 carbine brass glued over a 125 grain blunt (or saw off the end of a field tip). This makes for an extremely strong roving arrow with that added weight up front. (One can use the brass over the smaller aluminum shafts too).

I'm with JC.  I use 1.5-2" with JB Weld

I don't think there's anything special to it other than matching up with the right Aluminum diameter exactly to your shaft (see the tradgang footing chart!   http://www.tradgang.com/stuff_bin/arrowfit1.pdf)

I just used fletch glue I had laying around.  It seems to hold fine, but I'm sure JB Weld would be better.  I've actually used varying footing lengths up to 5 inches to cover over damaged parts of arrows and all seem very adequate.  

I use CX 150's with 100 gr brass inserts and they ALWAYS sink the insert and splinter the carbon tip if I hit something solid with a blunt.  A little footing makes the arrow almost invincible.

I haven't put on broadhead arrows yet, but I think I may next season.  According to Ashby, arrow integrity is of critical importance when enountering bone.  A minor loss of penetration from increased diameter is probably worth the assurance your arrow will hold together better... not to mention countered by weight/FOC increase.

Y aneed to use something that won't be briitle or move, JB weld or a good 24 hr. epoxy. I use 1.5"s and it makes my arrows almost indestructable. Shawn
