Reduce Draw Weight on Bear Montana....How?

Hey all,

I am thinking about getting a Bear Montana 45 pound longbow but the draw weight may be a bit much for me to enjoy extended shooting sessions.  If I needed say 4 or 5 pounds taken off of a new Montana would it be possible?  Naturally I wouldn't want to compromise the integrity of the bow.

What would be the best and easiest way to go about this draw weight reduction?  If I were to find someone that could do it for me what would you guess it would cost?

Any thoughts or ideas you care to pass on?  I'd like to hear your opinions.

You could trap the limbs, Jim Belcher of Belcher Bows can do it for 150.00 per his website.

Figure the cost of the bow and then having it worked on and you can very easily afford to buy what you want to begin with. Messing around with a bow like that would first of all void any warranty and might even screw up the shooting of the bow itself. If you want a 40, buy one.BUT if you think you can draw a 45 at all, shoot it and build yourself up to it. Very easily done and takes not all that long. I started out on a 35-40 lb bow years ago and am now drawing a 65 pounder.

I would have Doug, from Turkey Creek longbow build you one custom, his bows start out at $475 if he starts from scratch, but he may have something on hand for you, he did for me, it was still a custom bow, but it was made for somebody else, and I happen to purchase it.

Maybe you could call three Rivers archery and see if they can order you one, a Montana at 45 lbs., or even 40 lbs., you may have to pay extra, but I would check out Doug, web site

Trapping the limbs might take a few pounds off the draw weight, and lots more if you get aggressive with sanding.  However, an amateur could ruin the limb tiller.  Best to look around for a used bow ...
