« on: January 10, 2008, 05:47:00 AM »
What would your next purchese be?

I was given some cash for Christmas and need some suggestions on what book or DVD to buy.

Books I already have:-
The Great Warbow - Matthew Strickland
Timeless Bowhunting - Roy S Marlow
Balanced Bowhunting - Dave Holt
Witchery of Archery - Maruice Thompson
Bows & Arrows of the N A Indian - Jim Hamm
Traditional Bowyers Bible - Vol 1-3
From the Den of the Old Bowhunter - Chester Stevenson.

Please could I also have your comments some books/ DVDs I've seen online:-

Traditional Archery from Six Continents - Charles E Grayson
Traditional Bowyers Encyclopdedia - Dan Bertalan
Masters of the Barebow DVD 1 & 2.

Thanks

I would say it depends on what you are after. For wood bow building the Trad Bowyers Bibles are well worth the money and if you wait til spring number 4 will be coming out. Dean Torges' book, "Hunting the Osage" Bow and his video, "Hunting the Bamboo Backed Bow" are excellent as well as Paul Comstock's "The Bent Stick".
The "Witchery of Archery" is classic reading. "Bows and Arrows of NA Indians by Hamm is a good source of info on NA archery. "Masters of the Bare Bow, I" is the only one I've seen and it is well worth the money.    Pat

If your shooting Instinctive I would suggest any of G.Fred Asbells books or video/dvd
Looks like you already have a pretty good collection.

Dean Torges " Hunting the Bamboo Backed Bow" is really good even if you don't plan to build one. A warning though, if you watch it you'll start thinking you "need" to build one.  Bob

If you want bowhunting stories, any of Don Thomas' or Jay Massey's books. Also Ishi and Elvis by Jim Hamm.

Shooting books, take a look at Stalking and Still Hunting by Fred Asbell.

Another must have would be "Bows on the Little Delta" in my opinion.

You need to lay hold of Gene Wensels books. Hunting Rutting Whitetails,One Man's Whitetail, and the new one,Come November.

The problem is,the first two are out of print, and the last one is nearly sold out.

The very best books on hunting whitetails.    :campfire:

Ditto Dirty Bill on the books. For video go with Masters of the Barebow DVD 1 & 2

In my opinion you can’t go wrong with this book. The Politically Incorrect Guide to Hunting is a book all hunters should read.

Here is a link to an interview with the author.

DVD- Primal Dreams,  the last Two minutes of the Video is worth the price.

Book
Come November is a great read.

If you have the money go ahead and subscribe to TBM if you haven't already.  I need to again myself.
