Any tips for installing a clicker?
« on: January 10, 2008, 09:05:00 PM »
I made a change to my shooting form today. (Changed my anchor). Now I need to get to where I do it every time. I was told that a clicker may help me condition my body to do it every time. Are they hard to install? Can someone give me a description of how to install one. I guess the main thing is, how do you make sure you set it up at your proper draw length? Is there one brand that is better?

The only one I have experience with is the Clickety Click. It's well made, and lasts a very long time.

You just put it on the back of your top bow limb. There's a string hooked to a little chain on it.

To set it is kind of trail and error. The string can just be tied around your bowstring for now, because you will need to adjust it.

Get an arrow long enough for your draw, with a little extra length. Draw the arrow to your anchor point, and have some one mark the arrow where it stops on the rest closest to you(the back side of the rest).

If the clicker clicked before you reached full draw, the string is too short. If it doesn't click at all it's too long.

Once you have it perfect, measure the string on the clicker between the limb and your bowstring.Mark the measurement down in your bow notebook for future use.

Make a mark on the clicker string.

Also make a mark on your bowstring where the clicker will tie in.

Now you can untie the string, and unstring your bow. You want to weave the clicker string in between a couple of strands of bow string.

Restring your bow check you clicker again, readjust if you have too,and you're ready to shoot.   :campfire:

Last week I posted some crono readings from my bow. According to everyone's responses I did not have a consistent draw nor was I drawing what I thought I was. I knew I could physically draw 28" @ 58 lbs, but some where along the way I started anchoring at the front of my mouth instead of the corner. I was loosing about 1.5 inches on my draw. I went over to see an old friend of mine last night and was discussing the low crono read outs. He watched me draw and pointed out what I was doing right away. When I changed my anchor I started drawing about 28.5". I went back today and shot the same bow through the crono. (I had to re-tune my arrows too) I shot a Carbon Express 150 31" long at 382 grains.(210 grains up front) I Shot a 170, 170, 170, 172, 173. Much better. Now I have to repeat it over and over. Thanks for the help on the clicker..

The bow is a Super Shrew 58" 58 lbs @ 28..

If any of you guys read this that responded to my crono numbers and all the other questions I had about arrow spine, I want to say thank you! I really was a big help!

Heres how I do it:
1.get one of those cheap tape measures (thin width). You can get them in the crappy tool bin at the auto stores for 2 bucks)

2. Cut about 2 inches worth off (be sure to cut the clasp off the end)

3. Wrap the bottom 1/4 inch with electrical tape to keep from scratching your bow limb.

4. drill a small hole just at the tip of the other end

4. hold the piece of tape measure agianst the belly of the top bow limb with the concave side towards the limb.

5. Tape the bottom 1/4 inch (over the other tape) around the tape measure piece and the limb, attaching it to the limb.

6. tie a piece of serving material to the hole you drilled, and run the other end THROUGH the bow string (strung, and make sure you have a good two foot of serving material through the bow string) and pull it tight, but do not pull it so tight that the tape measure bends.

7. Slowly draw the bow to anchor and let back down. This is how you get the right length string.

8. now, pull about 1/2 inch of the slack back out of the serving material (same direction as you did originally) and tie it off around the string. Now when you draw to anchor, you should get the "click" from the tape measure. Adjust as needed.

I just received my Cartel Clicker and installed it on my Hoyt Pro Medalist.  I recently checked my draw length and discovered I was drawing 31" with this bow. Laid the arrow on the unstrung bow on the floor with the arrow tip at the point on the riser making sure the arrow was level.  I then attached the clicker to the riser (it came with double backed tape) where the tip of the arrow just cleared the "clicking point".  I haven't shot the bow on the range yet, but it has a screw/slide notch that should allow a final install point to allow a consistent draw.

Just so Slayer doesn't get confused, we're talking about two different kinds of clickers here.  Most are talking about a Clickety click, which fastens to the limb, with a string going to the bow string.  When the shooter reaches full draw, the string pulls the metal clicker slightly away from the bow limb causing it to make an audible click.  The Cartel clicker fastens to the bow riser and its metal spring arm rides over the arrow.  When the arrow is drawn past it, it is released to slap the bow's riser making a click.

AWESOME POST!!!!

Thanks SO MUCH for the idea!!!  I've got a bunch of broken small tapes we use at work - I usually just through them out, but I'll be putting this to work today/tomorrow!

Thanks again!
