Wingnut and I talked about the fact that more younger does are taken than ole ga'mas. It is true she is smart and careful. She has likely seen a number of hunters up in stands but do ya think that is the reason?
Wingnut had a thought (it is not that uncommon
). He pointed out that ga'ma is not usually the first one in. Is that something she has planned or are the kids just being kids and going ahead? So it could well be that it is our (trad bow hunter's) impatience. knowing that the more deer we let by the more eyes that can put the make on us.
I noticed in wihill's post, he purposely waited on a larger doe, letting some smaller pass. He got a nice doe. i bet it is all three, our impatience, ga'ma's smarts and the kids impulsion. Waiting on Ga'ma to come in would take some will power. the number of shots ya get vs number of visits to the stand for trad bow hunters can be on the small side. it is had to pass up a good shot...least for me.
