Tred Barta Caribou Hunt???
« on: December 18, 2006, 09:31:00 AM »
I normally don't respond on these things, but after watching this show and trying to do so with my wife, I felt the need to at least say something.  Are we so hungry to see some traditional hunting on TV that we have a tendency to look the other way when things are not right?  I could not believe what I was seeing! Not that I like Tred, by any means, but my gosh!  It appeared the only satisfaction for him was to see how many arrows he could get in the air with the hopes of maybe hitting something.  I know he made his shooting of a longbow look very ineffective and I wonder how a unknowing person would view this.  Is this what we want representing us on TV?  I lost count of how many shots he took(and do not know how many were not shown) but I do distinctly remember him stating at the begining of the show that his effective range was 15-20 yds.  His shortest shot shown(as stated by him, but appeared much longer) was 40yds, with some shots much over that and he was not even close to being on target, missing by feet!  Much less the coup de grace, a running shot at over 45yds and he was at least 8-10ft. off.  It is bad enough that this kind of behavior goes on, but to show this on national TV for all to see is unbelievable.  I really find it hard to believe that his sponsors support this behavior and wonder if they really know what is being shown on the show.  I think I am going to contact some sponsors and talk with them over this as I do know some of them.  It is just very troubling to me to see our sport and what is a way of life for me, portrayed in this manner for all others to view.  I do not want to have to spend my time hunting and shooting with traditional equipment, having to defend myself and my sport.  Thanks and sorry for ranting, but it really got to me and I wanted to let it out.  Mark

That is a rather old episode now and has been discussed several times. We'll leave it up for a few days so you can get some feedback.

I haven't seen it, myself, Mark..but it doesn't surprise me as I saw the mule deer doe shooting episode (which is what turned me off the show) where he said the same thing- 15 to 20 yards, but when the rubber met the road he was flinging wood at everything.

Mr. Barta appears to be more of a beginning stage bowhunter, thrust in the limelight and is "maturing" in front of the camera, although, when you see him out fishing with people he acts a lot like a spoiled kid, ranting, yelling, cussing people if they don't do things exactly the way he wants them done, so maybe maturing is the wrong turn of phrase in this instance!

Exposure is only worthwhile if its in a good light- I think this show is a lot of "THE WORST" and very little of the BEST - Of Tred Barta.

I've got to agree with all of the above. Barta is an egomaniac. If he was hunting in my camp he'd be told to change or leave. I'll never watch his show again. He is bad for the image of bowhunting.
I hope Three Rivers takes note.

I have to agree with Mark, makes me damn sick!!
I can't believe 3 rivers is selling the Barta bow, I know business is business but they toute themselves as trad family ran business yet they help support someone who really hurts all bowhunters especially those with trad equipment.  makes me sick.  I canceled the part of our dish network that has that channel I dont wan to support them in any way.  Fred Eichler, Jim Shockey, the guy from taxidermy trails all have repectiful shows.
I hope no one buys his bow and that they drop it!!

Mark:  I agree with you 100%.  I don't watch the show anymore, or even the channel because the other shows are just as bad.  I did take note of who the advertisers were, however, and have already begun my own personal boycott.  They won't feel it, of course, but it makes me feel better.

Ok, I think the point has been made so this one is going to bed before it starts to go down any farther.
