Clicker quieting build along w/pics
« on: January 13, 2008, 01:27:00 AM »
Here is my first attempt at a build along. There were a few requests on this so I thought I might give it a go on how I do it. This is only one way to skin the proverbial cat, so I invite anyone else with different methods to post as well.
First all the materials you will need:
1- a clicker, the brand is up to you, I use the " Clickety-Clicker"
2- a small phillips and small straight screw drivers
3- a piece of felt or mole skin 3"X3" should be plenty
4- optional neoprene tape
5- scissors

First step is to take the chain off. then take the small end, run the string through it, tie it off. This eliminates 75% of the noise right away. I use the small straight screw driver to pry it off then once the string is through crimp it back together with pliers.(Not shown)

Sorry for the blurry pic   :banghead:

Next install the base of the clicker to the bow. The length from the end is personal, but mine is about 6-7" from the string grooves.

The next step is to take a peice of felt or mole skin and press it on the base, without taking the tape off the back of the felt. This gives you a pattern to cut out the felt. It also shows you where the screw hole is so a hole can be punched into it.

Then cut out the felt and punch a hole or cut the hole out.

You can see the indent of the screw hole on this pic

The next step it to apply the felt to the base

Then you take the spring steel part and put the neoprene tape to the underside. You can use felt or even electrical tape for this step. This tape does a wonderful job of quieting the click.

Again I just pressed the tape onto the spring steel to make a template of where the hole is and how big to cut it.

Then apply it to the underside of the spring steel

The next step is to put felt on the top side of the spring steel. I again press it to get a template. You can also just cut a slit up past the screw hole and the felt will conform around it.

After all the felt is in place go ahead and screw the clicker back together

If you notice in the pic, there is no felt on the top side of the spring steel(the black piece) I just screwed up the first time and didn't take other pics.

After the clicker is in screwed back together. Take the last piece of felt you will need and press it to the the top piece of the clicker.  cut it out then apply.

And there you have it, a quieter clicker. I hope this helps.

One last step for those who are anal like a friend of mine. Take a black sharpie a color the edged so there is no shine what so ever.

And on a side note, if you ever have to replace a clicker, the outdoor use doulble sided tape from 3M is the best I've found. It is red if you are looking for it. Good luck to everyone this year.

Thanks for posting that. I just installed a clicker on one of my bows. This should quiet it down nicely!
