Bah, and humbug!

If I can't buy groceries, no bill will stop me from catching my dinner.

I'm sorry but a bill that seriously curtails canned hunting. How is that a bad thing? Not trying to start a fight just asking. Maybe I am missing something.

brmize,
I'm with you. I will now avoid Tradgang for the next week as I can not handle the increase in blood pressure when the any thing goes crowd, big tent folks ramp it up. I will check the whole bill, I find it hard to believe that a politician would have a one paragraph bill. If nothing else pops up he will get a letter from me supporting the effort to ban caned hunts.

Might as well move to Europe and join a hunt club the way things are moving here in the USA.

Actually it is a ban on exotic animal hunts. Any non native animal can be defined as an exotic. Feral pigs come to mind. When legislation like this gets on the books interpretation is where the troubles start.

If you want to trust Congress to legislate a Bill on hunting that can be manipulated and is in very loose language that's your right.

Vermontster is correct,  never never never give non-hunters power over hunting rights.  These fools will manipulate the law to conciliate their own world view.  Only conservationists  and wildlife biologists should be making these descisions.

Europeans have far fewer rights than we do,  let's not go there.
Politically correct is a euphemism for spineless.

I think what et was implying was that in Europe only the rich and privileged are able to hunt and that the rich hunting on private "preserves" is where we are headed here.

A great part of America is already there. Leases are just another form of pay to hunt and the quest for antlers drives those prices higher and higher. We need to keep public lands as open and as accessible as possible. We can afford no more hunter attrition due to no place to hunt.

But on this bill, it will be amended and language played with. Hunting is a state thing and should stay with a local voice. I really don't want people from Los Angeles, NYC, Detroit, Miami, And the other big voting blocks controlling my hunting rights. Lets leave it at the state level where at least we have a chance of actually having a voice in our rights.

brmize,
You got what I was implying. I fear that hunters are willing to forsake our hunting heritage for "success".
Vermonster, I do understand your position and the concerns where such a bill could morph into.

Only 856 signatures. Not gonna stop this with so few. I agree, States, not the Feds should control hunting. Do not agree with canned hunts where a person pays his fee and they turn an animal out for him to kill, but a High Fence ranch that is 2,000 acres or bigger is a different story. The animals on those places roam the entire property and fend for themselves mostly. But this bill could very well have grave consiquences for even native species. A foot in the door so to speak.

This is another well meaning attempt to stop the spread of species such as Wild Hogs, know to carry viruses that can infect cattle and native wildlife.  I am not saying that I like the bill, and I agreed it looks like the camels head under the tent.  This bill came into being because of the distructive nature of some exotic animals, and that they were being transported from state to state by people who knew not what they did, without any concern to diease, and impact on native game and livestock.

Like the gov't always does, it uses a "Brick Bat" to kill a fly.  I promise you, if this thing becomes law, it will be another nail in the coffin of hunting as we know it.

The Hog farmers are a driving force behind this, as are some cattle ranchers.  They know what kind of financial impact they could suffer from some of the bugs these exotics carry.

Not defending it, just bring some understanding to the confusion, in order to come up with a real solution that won't affect hunting, and will maintain the financial viablity of those industries.

Before you ask me if I own livestock, or if I am a rancher the answer is no,  I am just a lowly, dumb Police Detective who likes traditional bowhunting......and no!  I don't care much for donuts!

Still does not make sense Scott. Wild Hogs roam freely over almost every Southern state. Wild Pigs are fereal animals not exotic. Lots of exotics roaming freely around Texas also,Auodad, mouflan, axis and blackbuck come to mind. Have never heard of them carrying any disease affecting cattle or pigs. Still a bad idea.

If a man fences his property and charges someone to harvest his livestock thats his choice. I would not expect him to give a flying filp what I thought about what he did with what he owned. Theres no way I'm going to try and stand in his way. It's called free enterprise, and God Bless him for it.

Heres a group that dissagree with me

While your there, type deer hunting into there search and see what you come up with.
