Strung or Unstrung

Well now that I have a new Longbow I'll be asking a lot of, what might be dumb questions so please bear with me!

I have a Montana Longbow and plan on shooting a lot. If I shoot a few arrows a day is it best to leave it strung or should I unstring it after I'm done for the day. I plan on shooting at least 6 arrows a day. When I say at least it will be more like 60 a day!!!!!! So I guess what I'm asking is if I shoot daily should I unstring it and let it sit overnight or just leave it strung as long as I'm shooting it daily???

The bows I shoot regularly stay strung-period. My 18 month old ACS has been strung for 18 months.

The only time I unstring mine is if I am not going to shoot them for a couple of months.

I was told by a very good boyer from Texas that it is fine to leave a modern laminated bow strung all the time. You actually can cause dammage to your bow by stringing and unstringing it all the time.

I *love* being the lone voice disagreeing with the masses, but for a modern laminated bow, I just can't be that voice.   Leave the string on that thing.  :-D

What about vintage 1960's and 1970's bows. Do you unstring them?

My Centaur has been strung since I got it last March. I shoot at least a dozen arrows almost every day all year long

Black Widow recommends leaving their recurves strung (if you are shooting them regularly) and hanging or storing their longbows unstrung. It seems counter-intuitive to me, but apparently the narrow limbs of a longbow tend to resist twisting moreso than a recurve.

Leaving my recurve(s) strung seems to facilitate more frequent, impromptu shooting sessions. While I do unstring my longbow, I leave it on the wall, "at the ready" with a Selway stringer attached.

You may want to check with your bow's manufacturer to see what they recommend.

Glass bows or ok maybe, Self bows can get what called a "set" and weaken the bow...thats what Ive been told....I use a stringer and unstring mine and sock it up...mark   :)
