I'm interested in hearing about this as well....

I wonder if Mike Yancey w/ Pine Hollow LOngbows (sponsor) would be a source?

Arkansas has a bear season that is open to anyone, you can bait on private land but not on National Forest land. It is tough at best, they feed on the acorns once they begin to fall so bait is not a sure thing. I don't know of any outfitters offering any hunts at this time, there was one for a few years but haven't seen anything on him in a few years.
I live in the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas and took a bear here a few years ago but most are taken South around Mena in the Muddy Creek area.
They took a ton of bears this year, this was the first year that the Game and Fish Com. removed the quota and we had a late freeze that took care of the mass crop so the bait's were working.
Thats about it but if it was me I would go to Manitoba Canada, I have taken two there with selfbows using the same outfitter. I can hook you up with him if you like.
Mike

I have hunted mainly the Ozarks and took a 420lb bear a couple years ago in the ozark national forrest, hunting over acorns.. and have seen 15 or so over the years, I have had 3 friends take bears in the ozarks with trad gear on public land and no bait. Like Mike said Muddy creek has some good bears, I have a buddy who lives in muddy creek wma and has to have several bears removed from his yard by the Arkansas game and fish.

Don't want to hijack this thread, but have a question for all you Arkansas guys.

We are planning a hunt in Ark in early Oct, before muzzleloader.  Several Trag Gangers will be going and all are welcome to join us.

Problem is we don't have anyone who really knows alot about hunting Ark public land.  A friend recommended Gulf Mountain WMA.  We will be camping and while not necessary we would like the chance for a bear as well as the deer and turkey.

Any help is very much appreciated!!

I would look at White Rock WMA, a VERY big area. although gulf mtn is a good area, I really like White Rock, around cass Ar. camping is available at Byrds adventure center on the mulberry river, or at redding nat forest campground both just a few miles east of Cass. very rough country that holds a good population of bears as well as deer. Out Trad club holds a hunt every year and have had it there several times in late Oct/early Nov. we have taken quite a few deer 1 almost p&Y and 3 or 4 bears 1 p&Y quality. It is also quite a bit closer to you being just SE of fayetteville. also a good bunch of birds in the area.. ya gotta watch late Oct though as far as campiong at Byrds, there is a local 4X4 club that has a large event there usually around holloween. you can search "byrds adventure center" and get a schedule of events. Redding is a nice campground. Or you can rough it about anywhere. if ya are interested, shoot me a pm and I will try and help ya out.. thanks Dave
