Turning down aluminum shafts?
« on: January 18, 2008, 06:40:00 PM »
I was just thinkin... It would not be hard to take an aluminum shaft that was too stiff, chuck it in an electric drill and sand it down with fine sandpaper to whatever spine you wanted. You could even taper it so it was stiffer toward the point like on some of the more expensive carbons. Has anyone tried this?

It would take a lot of time and would not be consistent, no matter how careful you were at sanding. Still, someone has probably tried it. I'll stick with wood, thanks.

I would just use a heavier point weight to soften the spine. Besides, I like a heavy point any way. Gives a good punch.

you could end up making it too weak to shoot safely.. they are only .0014 thick in some cases.  Chalk this up to winter boredom?

That is .014 about 5 sheets of paper not a half of a sheet,, I think foil is thicker than that
